Primers are still way over priced

Not much has inflated like primers.

They know people need them and people keep paying for them so why lower the going rate?

If/when the other primer manufacturer(s) in the works start producing, we might see some relief. The situation now is basically a monopoly for powder and primers. Till people stop paying, prices will stay or keep creeping up. Competition is the only other way it'll change.

1. Demand is high. More reloaders, more shooters consuming more factory ammo.
2. Raw material prices have increased.
3. Are fewer primer manufacturers active? Remington was out of business a while, I'm not sure if anyone else had reduced production.

It sucks but that is the state of things.

Supply is going to manufacturer's factory ammo. That, combined with the kinks in the supply line due to Covid disruptions have driven the price up. The supposed "greed" of some sellers isn't a well thought out explanation. Monopolies have never succeeded for long in a capitalistic society bc some "greedy" person is always willing to sell for a little less. As long as there are multiple sellers of a product, downward pricing pressure always finds a way to keep unbridled profits in check.

raw material cost increase could have something to do with it, just about everything has doubled in price since last year

steel sheeting to make the primer cup for example

Jan 2020 price $209.70
Jan 2022 price $680.41

Let’s all run around hollering the sky is falling the sky is falling.
I am not what I consider old, maybe vintage. I look back and recall similar goings on at the top levels of government, similar terrible things going on around the globe. Yes, things got expensive and some times hard to find or get. No powder is no longer $3 per lb or are primers .50 per 100. It will come back and settle down to a new normal, what that is I do not know. I do know I saw “items” cheaper in years past than what I was told in the 80’s would never be cheaper. Feces book and the other fecal media’s do little but fuel the fire on things.
All the negative Nancy’s may want to read history, rather than try to predict the future.

I understand supply and demand, prices will and do fluctuate. What really gets me is the gouging for any product, whether its primers or portable generators during a weather issue. It’s flat out wrong and probably illegal.
Sad that Brownell’s actually offers a payment plan for your primer purchase.

Check the 500 count price on Berger 108’s at PV, Eurooptic and MidwayUSA, I guess Mrs Larry needs new shoes again.

Primer cups are not made of steel.

@ 426and 2 thanks for the correction, I learned something new. Thankfully they are not made of hamburger either
Even if they were made of steel there is not enough material in the cup and the anvil to raise the price like it has.

@ ebb - if the cost for materials has doubled to produce an item the cost has doubled regardless of the amount used per unit
