A couple weeks ago I bought 1K CCI 450s at Scheel's in Appleton, WI for $89.95. The last 450's I bought, I paid $34.95 for, so it goes - better than $125 a few months ago.CCI 450 is 89.99 for limit quantity of 1000 today at Midway, price before they add tax, HAZ, and shipping.
was at gun show last weekend,140.00 /1000 on primers.nuts
I got an email from their director of Expansion Industries sales back in mid July saying primers would be available in 30-60 days.Does anyone have any info in the new primer facility planed for in Texas? All I see is information posted early this year. I think these guys are seeing the high prices of primers now and think they can sell their production at these inflated prices. They are not planning on the price of primers coming down.
Unless there is a large contract buyer out there willing to buy up everything, keeping the manufacturers happy and everyone else SOL.So, at $14.00 per tray of 100, that is the same as two 50 count boxes (100 rds) of .22 ammo of a reasonably good match variety or very high target grade, which also have priming compound, but significantly, a bullet, in addition to powder and a larger “case.”
The industry component guys will have to lean on each other to keep it real, or else they will all suffer because practice round count will sharply decline. Take the powder makers for example, “the spice must flow” or else it really doesn’t matter how many shifts Berger runs, annual round count consumption will simply drop, practice will be the first to go, and that means brass will stretch, we won’t need to buy it in cases, barrels will go back to lasting a very long time, and actions and stocks - for generations.
CCI, Hodgedon, Alliant and VV, make your noisy stuff, or the kids will have to leave this sandbox and with them their toys.
I make my own primers but was able to acquire plenty of factory primers recently so I haven't had to make primers for awhile now. Either way I've got it covered. So of late I'be been bombarded by Bruno Shooters Supplies, often several times a day which just makes me want to unsubscribe from their emails, over primer and powder stock. I decided to check what I paid the last time I bought primers.
CCI BR4 in April 2018 I bought a bunch at an equivalent of $55/1000. Bruno is now touting stock at $140 per 1000 (if bought in lots of 5k). Yes prices should have gone up but not 250% !!! Clearly there's a lot of gouging still going on this market. Let them sit on the shelves for a bit longer yet. Luckily I have plenty for now.
Farmers are pretty good at getting through hard times by making do with what you have to work with but I've never made a primer. I would like to observe your process from a safe distance....
