Personal defense, home defense, paper, steel but probably not competition. With my eyes the plan would be to put a laser on it.

With a little aftermarket work, the Ruger Single Actions are very reliable and fun to shoot and can be very accurate. I've owned several Blackhawks and Single Sixes.

I have an old Blackhawk (not super) in .44 mag. Had it magnaported but muzzle rise is still significant.

Don’t have a beard but if I did it would be all grey. I’m 76.

I know. But after cataract surgery I’m stuck with a fixed lens and the eye can’t focus at multiple distances anymore like the OEM equipment could. I found that with a laser all I have to do is focus on the target. That simplifies things a lot.

Since I already have the dies and about 6,000 cases, I’m staying with the .40S&W. A bit harder to find one chambered for that but not impossible.

Being used to rifle triggers I find I don’t like pistol triggers much. At least the ones I’ve tried. Way too much movement. Even the single action ones. I tried one 1911 (don’t remember the brand) but that trigger was sweet.

A 1911 would have an excellent trigger selection.

Check out a used model of better manufacture and grade.

Lasers on pistols kinda suck. Learn irons or get a red dot sight.

Wheel guns are nice but you would be hard pressed to beat a sig 210 target or cz 75 variation. They just shoot Good!

Try some 240-grain lead bullet loads at about 850 to 900 f/s and it will bring a smile to your face. The Speer swaged bullets are extremely accurate under 1,000 f/s.

I have many 1911 and 2011. I shoot USPA matches for fun at the local ranges.
On the other hand, I have a 1911 in 9mm from RIA, and I use it to teach new shooters the basics. It is a soft shooter and very accurate. New shooters love it a lot.
Of course, I am garage-DIY-gunsmith, YouTube educated how to tear down a 1911 and tune it.
Surely, the RIA is not like my Ed Brown. However, it is a very nice shooter for your 5x100 bills or so.

Limited range, encourages bad shooting habits, typically poor accuracy relative to real sights or a dot.
