Why have I wasted so much of my life picking up brass?

All you gentlemen who want to get rid of your auto loaders, pm me I will dispose of them for you. In about 20. Years.

So guys are selling or not shooting their auto-loaders because they don't want to pick up brass. Are you getting rid of all your laceup shoes for slip-ons for the same reason, you don't want to bend over?

Shooting 45ACP revolvers is so much fun that you have to try it. The S&W's are amazingly accurate and feed everything but a high primer.

Uh, I guess you’ll have to wait until you get older to understand. I’m at the point that when I drop something, I look down and decide how badly I really need it.
Old habits are hard to break. I still pick up my brass and others I find. I just don’t worry as much if I don’t find every piece. I use a catcher when I remember to bring it, but that’s the other problem.

I’m in my 60s now and when I was 18 and decided I wanted my first handgun, I asked my dad if he would sign for it and he agreed. I had decided “the one” would be a Colt 1911 45. Looking down in the case at the gun shop there lay a brand new box stock blue Colt 1911 in 45 acp- obviously the one I had come to get. But wait right beside it layed a brand new 6” Blue Model 27. Man that was really a beautiful gun and only 50 bucks more than the 1911. I sure thought about changing my mind for a few minutes. But no I took the 1911 and proceeded to shoot the heck out of it for the next year or so. I now think how my life would have changed had I taken the wheel gun. I could of done a lot of things with the time I spent picking up brass. Now as an old man with a sore back I’ve had enough. No more brass picking for me. Still love my 1911s but I won’t be shooting them much or any other auto loading pistols except rimfires. I’ve become a wheel Gun Convert. Should of done it long ago. Was out shooting 629 today and it was nice. I’ve even got a 25-2 and a few others in safe to use for this project:)
Life is Good

Shoot these, have fun and save your back! It's what I do.

I remember when I was a kid my father taking me to a local range and I got the biggest enjoyment out of picking up empty brass that shooters left behind. I started a cartridge collection that I still have to this day. All sorts of oddball cases by today’s standards were laying there just for the picking.348 Win,32-40Win,25-35,219 Zipper etc. I have often wondered what kind of rifles these were chambered in and why some of the guys chose the cartridges that they did. I still get these cartridges out from time to time and reminisce about the good old days when I was a kid. So I am glad I picked up all that range brass it has led to a lifetime of shooting and hunting that is priceless!

Picking up your spent brass is tough enough. What really gets me is I always lose a few pieces when I shoot my ACP. As a youngster, I picked up every piece I could find. Now as a snob, I like to have all he same brand. Life just keeps getting better and better, or something like that. It only gets better, on Monday morning, I had difficulty deciding what rifle to bring. "Lazy" won out, brought my rimfire Colt Diamondback, as I was going to help a friend with his new rifle. Another story, but decency will win out on that one. Or the names will be changed to protect the guilty.
Yes I know what you mean- I to used to be really enthused about picking up all the brass I could find to. And I have to select the one to bring now where used to be there were only 2 or 3 total so I brought them all. Not using my diamondback now much. The rimfires are the ones I still use the semiautos

Waste not want not. Take offspring and teach them well. Nothing is free but range brass is cheaper shootin means more shootin.
No offspring unfortunately to help me. Dumping my brass from the cylinder to the bucket, I don’t lose any and you know pistol brass lasts forever:D

At a range with a bench I use a bait net and a 4x6 block, drill an appropriate hole to stand the net near to the ejection port then catch the brass before it hits the ground.
That would work and I’ve tried stuff like that and seen guys do it. I just don’t wanna mess with any of that stuff anymore. I could make myself a 3’ x3’ outhouse with a little gun port. :D:cool:

Take a sheet and lay it down where the brass falls. When finished, pick up the four corners. I watched the guys shooting full auto do this.
I’ve been using one of those cheap plastic tarps the last few years. Better than nothing but you’d be surprised how many go off the edge and it’s pretty good sized. I’ve tried so many things and I just don’t wanna mess with any of it anymore. I gotta keep it simple these days as My memory is very limited usually to 2 things. 1. Gun. 2. Ammo. :D

Bending over a minute to put on your shoes is a whole different animal than extended times picking up brass and there’s a lot of other reasons besides the bending over.

Get a trash grabber, one with the rubber suction cup type things on the tips.

You won't spend much less time picking up brass, but you also won't (like me) spend 5 seconds trying to bend over, and another 5 trying to stand up again.

I’m looking forward to it. Got a 34 year old Smith, new in box, sitting in safe waiting for me. A bonus - have a lot of 45 acp loaded up and a lot more brass and bullets all that were going to the 1911 and now repurposed to the Wheel Gun:):)

Yep—. Actually the though of not picking up my brass never crossed my mind until the other day I was picking up some range brass and my back was hurting and it hit me. That’s when I decided to change my ways.

Get a brass pick up roller or build a brass catcher for bench shooting... Lay out a tarp or sheet and you only have to bend over twice basically , once to put down sheet or tarp and once to pick it up with your brass in it... The rollers that pick up brass are awesome.... I have vertigo and a hurt back so bending over will get me one way or another. If you decide to try a roller there's one from Caldwell , it's ok but there's another company you can look up that's awesome and you will know from the reviews when you find it... A friend gave me his old Caldwell after buying the better model...
