Eric people dont advertise on here because of the contributors .They look at how many people are registered to the site. ;) The little people count like Diego Ted and Others! Next time Lapua wants to advertise here just give them a list of contributors see how that works for you? ??? Eric cant get why Lapua would sponsor someone as unfriendly as you are to other shooters??????? This will get deleted soon ;D

I have not contributed, but may, never really gave it a lot of thought. My main reason for the post is consideration all the way around. I have talked to the seller and he said he was tied up at an event, I get that, things happen. However, when you have a big ticket item up, more than meets the eye is involved, and all parties should give each other consideration. If you know your not going to be around to respond to inquiries maybe you should wait to list it until you can be there. Know if you list an item it's going to generate questions and interests.

Mattt,
That shows how much you know me. I help anyone that has asked for my help and there are many that can attest to that, as a matter of fact, Diego-ted is one of those I have helped in the past. I don't have anything against Diego-Ted and he knows it, I have even met him personally and sat across the table from each other and had a short conversation. I believe Diego-Ted will contribute soon because he did not seem like a freeloader when I met him. As far as you go mattt, that's a different story, you freeload and are proud of it.

+1 for Erik,he may seem aloof at times but that is just a sign of someone who chooses his words carefully.Had you been a longtime reader of the forum, you would know that he has helped a great many people.I pay attention to what he writes even though I have never had the pleasure of meeting the man. IMO, Tom.

I have never met Eric but I had ?s on a 6.5x47 and he was very helpful. He even offered his reamer if I decided to chamber one. One of the good guys on this forum.

It is all in the timing. If someone says "I'll take it" that is a deal, BUT if someone says let me talk to the wife that isn't.
Here is the problem.
Say I am off line at 5PM and right before I log off I get the PM "let me talk it over with the wife" then someone emails me with "I'LL TAKE IT" and it notifies my phone. Am I then obligated to log back in right away to post it sold? or is when I log in the next day good enough? Also consider this 50% of the "I'll take it's" back out making it a lot of:
SPF
Back up for sale
SPF
Back up for sale

If I say Ill take it that's it, it's mine! and if someone tells me Ill take it on something im selling I wont sell it out from under them. But everything I put up for sale I think someone says (interested let me see if I can get it) Nothing wrong with that heck I have said that to people too, but there is no deal made in that statement.

I know Matt and Eric, both have been helpful to me and I believe have much to give to the board. I am sorry the post went this way! Back to my point a Pm with an I will take it post would go a long way towards ending any confusion! JMHO

Diego, I agree what you are saying, but first PM does not guarantee the item. Somewhere on here there are rules and suggestions on buying/selling, it specifies that the seller has the right to refuse to sell to anyone. I for one honor the first PM "rule", however, I know I don't have to sell to the first guy that PM's.

However, communication is key.

I've never met either one of you, but the 100 yard load development thread that Erik started and continues to mentor shooters on is fairly good evidence your statement isn't accurate.

The no1 thing I disagree with is the unlocked classified ads
that everyone seems to think is a chat forum.

Many yrs back classifieds on all boards were locked to everyone except the poster
The seller was required to list his contact info, and all transactions were
conducted privately. The first to reply bought the item.
Board PMs are less reliable than the weather, and should never be
used to conduct business. Ph numbers and direct Emails are less likely to fail.
Conducting business on an ad should not be allowed period. LDS

I like this part taken from the Sellers guidlines of this site!
"MANDATORY for all Marketplace sellers to disclose if the item is for sale elsewhere. What does that mean? Well if you are listing the gun on GunBroker.com, or on another shooting Forum, or if you even have it up for sale in your local club newsletter, you need to disclose that. This eliminates misunderstandings."

Clearly since I was the only one that responded to the seller, this should have eliminated any problems!

the Seller has many transactions on this site and should be aware of the policy, busy or not!!

What happened to Diego and the frustration he feels with it, goes with the territory when answering classifieds here or on any websight. Simply put, you are at discretion and decency of the seller. I've learned the hard way that many a seller prefers to sell his item to somebody that simply posts clean and simple "I'll Take It", instead of having the common courtasy to answer the first potential buyer's reasonable questions........never mind having to cater to his minimal finance delays or needs.

As a seller, I always reply to the first person to inquire about an item and give him first crack at it, even if somebody else in the interum comes along with an "I'll take it". It's a just a matter of decency to finish business with the first guy. But the world doesn't work fair and decent in accordence to Garp...... or me.

Answering a sellers questions is part of selling, but if you think questions
or picture requests mean anything, you will be in for a big let down.
There is only one thing thats firm in selling, the quote "I'll take it, or consider
it sold. The person with the opening line, "I am interested", has committed
to nothing as far as a purchase. I have lots of experience from classified ad sales,
and If I had waited on a come back from that first respondent on many of my items,
I would have a back log inventory beyond belief. There are just to many tire kickers,
that want to play games.

This is the simplest of all examples :
Q: Do you still have this item for sale
A: Yes I do.

You never hear from him again.
I have replied to that one, more times than I care to remember

My biggest complaint is a person that ask questions and, or request photos and have not the courtesy to say thanks for the info or kiss my azz. If I go to that trouble you should say it looks like shift or whatever.

Even with high ticket items it should not take any more than a couple of interactions, especially if the seller posted clear pictures. Most buyers on major sites have danced to this tune and know what they are buying. The bottom line is how much and when are you sending the item off. That is why quality pieces don't last long. Both parties need to let each other know where they stand, so if after asking questions I an not interested, I will send out a thanks but no thanks.

I see big ticket items with zero pictures. May sound like a good deal but before a couple questions and a pic who knows.. Some folks have good feedback scores and if they say like new I would tend to believe them..I would post the item with pic and enough info to save the trouble.. I have sold stuff and many folks just send a pm that they will take and I post SPF, Not everyone has a smartphone to update things on the go.. I wouldn't think the seller knew when the item would sell either..

Common courtesy goes a long ways, So doesn't a little understanding.

I've been reading this post since it started and have been debating whether or not to share my opinion on this subject so here goes. First off, I love this site and have dealt with so many great guys that I will probably never meet but when it comes to buying something I feel it really it is a crapshoot. You win some and you lose some. You just take the good with the bad and wait for the next good deal to come along. I have found that a PM to a seller saying that you are interested in an item should the first buyer back out sometimes pays off. I do agree that there are an awful lot of old posts that need to be deleted to clean up the site.
