New Savage - Dissappointment!

Scot, let us know when you get it back! As long as your rifle doesn't require barrel change or total rifle replacement I think they might finish yours on time otherwise they got rotations every other 4 weeks or so, its when they produce one model then retool for different...

Scot,
Do you have possession of it yet? if so how does it shoot? Hunting season is here!

an update on the situation, Once Savage got the rifle back to check it out they found that the holes that were drilled were drilled off center. So they decided to scrap the entire rifle. At least that is what they have told me.

So now I am waiting for a new receiver to be made. Apparently they did not have a single receiver of that type in the entire Savage plant. I was told that I would get the first rifle off the new run of that model. That was on Sept 29th. On Oct 5th I was told that it would be early next week before the rifle was made. So again I wait. And wait, and wait.....

Now to top it all off once the rifle is sent back to me it has to be re dros'd because it is a new serial number. So after I finally get the rifle back I will have to wait a 2nd 10 days to pick up the rifle. Savage said that they were fine sending the rifle directly to me. Because they consider it a repair/replacement situation. But my beloved state of Californiastan does not. Since I never actually received the original rifle by having shipped back to Savage for repair the state of California considers it a entirely new transaction. Or at least that is what I am being told.

To be honest, at this point I really don't care. I am just fed up with this situation and want it to be done with. It has been one month and I still don't have the damn rifle!

Nope, don't have it. Yes hunting season is here and I have had 2 hunts that I had planned with this rifle screwed up because of this situation.

So all in all I'm getting more pissed off the longer this takes. I was 100% happy when Savage told me what they were going to do to make things right. But taking a month to do it? And still counting..... and still no expected date of completion or shipment. That just isn't right. I find it hard to believe that Savage does not have one single model of that rifle anywhere in the entire Savage manufacturing facilities that they could use to correct this situation.

The only positive of not having this rifle to use gave me time do work on a couple others that I have been planning on building. So I did get an AR built that I have had plans for for awhile. And she turned out Puuurfect! So I'm happy about that. The longer this situation goes on the more I regret not cancelling the rifle in the first place and getting my money back. I almost wish I would have used that money to get a 6.5 or a 6.8 upper for another AR that I am building. Hell if this drags on much longer I might just do that anyway. Since Savage has not done a single thing on the new rifle that they are supposed to be making to replace my old one I still can do it.

I'm going to mull that question over and figure out if I should just cut my losses now and get some other rifle instead.

Just for reference here, several years ago I bought a new Remington 700 Stainless Synthetic in 25-06. I discovered that the rifle had an extremely over sized chamber, I made one phone call to Remington and they told me to box it up and send it back. They sent me a brand new gun, no questions asked in just a couple weeks.

As i said before i played Cat and Mouse for 8 Months with Effie. I returned the same rifle 3 times. I finally got a new rifle and the barrel looks like a wash board. It wasnt polished out correctly and has visible humps on the entire barrel. I was told buy someone at Savage that their production grew so rapidly that they have to sub out for many parts instead of making them in house. I feel your pain and they dont feel ours.

On that note, maybe I will just get the money back and put it towards a nice 6.5 or 6.8 AR upper.

I'm sorry to hear about your experience with Savage. So how did the rifle shoot once you got it all sorted out?

Someone at Savage just jumped for joy.

Scott, it looks like you are heading same road I did, I waited almost 2 months and still no rifle, at the end they offered me different model different caliber and I took that deal, to find out I got even more problematic rifle, but that time I was feed-up so I didn't send it back for another replacement, just kept its action and replaced its barrel. By the way have you talked to Effie? If you didn't you should give her a call, I told you before to deal only with her.

Thanks LR, I have and I am.

Sorry Scott, I wish I could help you, I did advise on sending your rifle back to Savage, but thats the only way you can get it fixed without voiding your warranty, eventually you'll get it back and if doesn't work as it should send it back again. From my experience I would never buy another factory rifle, when I decided that I'm done with Savage, I removed their barrel, trigger, then bedded their "pillar" bedded benchrest stock then installed custom barrel and trigger, now it holds 25 seconds as it should. Thing about Savage action, its easy to work with, so there are many choices...

Thanks LR

I'm just tired of them dragging their feet on this. Not to mention having to wait days just for a reply to an email.

I just can't understand customer service like this (or the lack there of). In my line of work if you have an upset customer you fix the problem, you fix it now, and you go above and beyond any expectations that they might have. Then you personally follow through on the promises made! Just to make sure that the customer is not only satisfied, but happy with the outcome. That is the only way I know how to do business and to deal with an unhappy customer who received a product that should have never left the factory in the first place.

It has been over 30 days since the Manager at Savage promised to fix this situation. I still have no rifle, no resolution, and the worst part is I still don't even have an expected date of completion.

This is not the way you repair and build trust in your company after making a mistake.

Scot, they used to be good, but now they are overwhelmed and running few months behind on orders and it looks like they gave up on quality control, as the result customer service got overwhelmed with lemons. One thing they did get, is their image of their brand and the demand for their products didn't change. What you are waiting now is production cycle change, they retool for different calibers every 3 - 4 weeks, depends on caliber you are getting, if you missed that cycle the wait is long... I was waiting for 6.5mm barrel replacement, and somehow they forgot to make one for my rifle. I think what's going on there is a big mess...

It took them ~7 weeks to swap out a curved barrel on my .223 BVSS. I called them once, they gave me the current no-BS status of what was going on, and the rifle came back to me approximately when they said it would. It stinks that the QC on the production line is what it is, and I imagine the people working in the CS dept. think it stinks too. In the end the CS people at Savage made things right, so I'll give them credit for that and I appreciate it. But the production people have caused me to probably never buy a complete Savage rifle again. Any new Savage projects of mine will start with a target action and be completed with a pre-fit Shilen or Criterion barrel. Then you know what you are getting.

There are only two ways to buy a Savage; order one from the custom shop and it will be right and what you want or look through someones in-stock merchandise and find one that satisfies you. With Savage, it's like ordering a bride over the internet, you have no idea what you are getting until it's there!

You are a patient and somewhat trusting man, I would have gotten my money back weeks ago, driven to Phoenix and bought a nice rifle for $900 and driven home. This is exactly what all the guys in SOCAL that I know do. I suspect that Savage is telling you whatever you need to hear to keep you at bay. I will be real surprised if you come out of this whole mess with a smile on your face.

In RE: my first statement. I had a buddy order a custom shop 116 in 7WSM last year. He was able to order the barrel length, contour and rifling twist rate (as long as Savage had a button for it) as well as LOP. It came with the Accustock, Accutrigger and shoots quite well actually. I was impressed with this rifle. Real people had to handle it!

With tax and shipping it was just under $900. One piece of advice- never, ever look into your Savage rifle bore with a bore scope. You will cringe and get dry heaves. It is utterly amazing how many flaws that floating bolt head makes up for!!

I'd stop emailing them and call. They should be able to look up your serial # and give you a update.

I have, but as of right now there is no serial number. My old rifle was "scrapped" according to Savage and they have not built or at least issued me my new one yet.

I only bought one Savage in my life and that was a Savage Striker and it was just ok. I guess I'm sticking to Remingtons, Sako's or Coopers after this thread....
