ourway77 said:00scot Well I can't say enough for Savage I bought a Target model 12 Right bolt left port, When I got it In order to remove the bolt you have to press this lever while pressing on the trigger at the same time well it sounds easy but the rifle I got I had a devil of a time to press the lever to remove the bolt. Well instead of contacting Savage I had a friend if mine who is a self professed gunsmith? well he started to monkey with the trigger he filed on the trigger several times He got the lever moving as it should according to the manual with the rifle. I figured I was all set (WRONG) the trigger was now F.U.B.A.R. Wouldn't stay cocked so the next day I called Savage I told them exactly what my friend and I did and that I am really am happy with the rifle. Well I sent it back to Savage I had to send the whole rifle I did $40.00 with priority mail and insurance I learned a hard lesson. Well in a week my rifle was returned from Savage buy UPS they repaired the trigger the lever works as it should the best part there was a bill for the repair my eyes lit up in big bold letters (NO CHARGE) I sinse then had a new rifle that had a slight burr in the barrel. I return it to Savage I told them I shouldn't have to pay for what ever they had to do plus shipping my cost of shipping back to them. Well they replaced the barrel and there was a check in with the rifle for my shipping, they put a new barrel on my rifle and I had it back in a week and a half. We have to realize these rifles are mass produced so there will be problems But I can not praise Savage enough for the service I got. One thing I have learned don't try to pull the wool over thier eyes and say it's a defect by the factory and that is the way you got it doesn't work. In your case it sounds like it was Savages fault all the way. I am 74 and years ago Savages were 2nd class rifles I wouldn't even consider buying one. They have come along way. Good Luck Lou
So your friend caused a gun that was not fully functional to be not fully functional? There was no bill for the repair? Well, if the rifle had not been screwed up to begin with your friend would not have had to mess with it.
And on the other one the barrel was junk but you are happy they replaced it for free. I should not have needed replacing to begin with, it's a new gun!
Sounds like you guys buy Savages expecting them to be crappy, and when the factory makes them less crappy, you guys praise them for their customer service. That's not how it should be in my opinion.
You say Savage has come a long ways. How? Sounds like they still build crappy rifles to me. You got two non functional rifles in a row and are praising Savage? Makes no sense to me!
Rant off! ;D
