"new" ripoff trimmer from Hornady

Ask Mr. Henderson just what % of his parts are actual made in USA.
I don't believe the is an "American Made" car or truck coming off any assembly line today.
Surprisingly, the Toyota Tundra may be even closer to that moniker than the F-150.
Engine produced from American made parts in Alabama and body parts made and assembled in Texas.
Our smokeless powder has American labels but most is from off shore.
It's even hard to find an American Flag with the Made in USA tag on it; and when you do the cotton and fabric probably came from Egypt.
Just examples of what we live in today . It is a global economy, like it or not.
Be careful. Some people get temperamental when challenged with facts.

And your point? Look at all the things in our sport that are made/assembled in the use using foreign parts. It's a large majority so not a hill to stand on and wave your flag.
Not to mention the industry company I worked for used temporary labor and these workers were refuges from Guatemala and Somalia located in the area by a democrat regime.
We had to use pictures so they would know how it was supposed to look when it left their station because they spoke no English.

Once upon a time, I was the PM for an ‘experimental’ type sewer plant in the western part of the state. It was partially US government funded, so “Buy American” clause was in effect. Onward to manhole frames & covers: Bulk iron/whatever was sent to India via ship, where the natives there actually manufactured the frames and covers from the raw iron. They came back, via ship, with “Made in India” stamped on them. The inspector had a fit until I pointed out the approved submittals on the F&C’s. Apparently, enough of the product was made in the US to conform to the rules, even though it was manufactured elsewhere. Lots and lots of silly rules on that project.

Other than the motor parts, it’s made in the USA. I know how a world economy works.

And what was your point with posting Hornady’s reply? Did you expect them to give an actual genuine response? Do you believe that was genuine? Keep in mind Henderson is a “American made born and bred” company too. Is a spy going to raise their hand when asked “are you a spy”? No, so why would Hornady in an email tell you “yes we copied the Henderson and made changes to it”

You said you drew the line at carbon copies, but you sure haven’t said a word about them copying Berger and Sierra bullets verbatim. For 2025 Hornady’s theme is “Year of the Chinese knock off”

It was to pass on the info I was sent but you know it all so you wouldn't need it anyways. LOL

The bullets were their attempt to help people shooting the other bullets that can not keep up with manufacturing. I wouldn't use them anyways as I use ELD-Ms and ATips. ;)

ETA, Nice going back laughing at my posts in response to me laughing at yours.

Have you seen his books? I haven't
Yes, I have seen his books. You showed them to me in your hypothetical: “takes his product to China where it can be made cheaper and puts that man out of business.”

I added the part about starving, but it was a fair inference from your hypothetical- source of income, dependent on and possibly his only source:

It becomes an income source that he and his family depend on and he invests his time into to produce...possibly his only income after a while, or sooner.

As pointed out by @shoot4fun, make this a moral issue and we are all hypocrites. Not much you can buy these day that was not made overseas or is a copy of something else. Henderson, just like any other products design person knows, or well should know that if you design something, it can be copied and produced by others unless you take the proper steps to make sure that it does not happen, and have the financial backing to maintain your position.

Legally copying something in your business— I don’t see it as a morality issue. It’s done everyday. Illegally copying something is different— sort of like stealing and is clearly immoral.

Hope all is well with you Mike. Hope to see you next year at a match somewhere. Again, your post made me laugh. 38+ years. Kind of hard to argue about lawyer speak.

You seem to work really hard to make Hornady seem right in everything.

Incredibly biased to the point you can’t even call them out on your own drawn line.

Actually not that hard if you looked at it with an open mind on the trimmer.

For the bullets, there is no patent on the bullets so they can do as they please. I wouldn't have done it as they have better bullets with better BCs already but it's their call.

“Better” BC means nothing if they aren’t consist or not correct. It’s weird how every time AB posts their findings on bullet BCs that Hornady has inflated BC numbers and on more than one occasion, not as consistent as others. Even ATIPs don’t have quality control as good as Bergers even with ATIPs “Sequential packaging”.

What can I say. Don't like them then don't use them but I put my data in 4DOF and have no problem making hits out to a mile with them. But if AB says so.

Well I don’t have a dog in this race being I don’t own either a Henderson or Hornady trimmer but I will say this and I quote “ a 100 pound terd is a lot of shit” this is my useless information of the day. :p:p

I cant let a 14 page thread die without giving my 2 cents.

Of course its a copy…and I can’t imagine buying the Hornady when for not much more you can buy a Henderson from the guy who designed and built it and probably answers the phone when you call him with a problem or question. But I am not buying a $600-$800 case trimmer no matter who makes it.

Before I reloaded 3000-8000 rounds a year I said the same. 8000 was one of my highest in a year and really averages around 3-5k. Once you reload that much it’s worth the time saved. I’m trimming 500 cases at a time for all my competition rounds and then on occasion have done sessions of 1000 with 5.56 brass for either a friend or 600 yard line ammo for service rifle. Or you could just be a busy person or someone who likes nice things that make things quicker without giving up precision.

If I had to give up every piece of fancy equipment and could keep one it would be my trimmer and I’ve ran into a lot of folks who’ve said the same.

What jthor said, plus one!!

I like nice things. Do not have a Ferrari or Lambo yet, but I'm pretty OK enjoying my (as Butch says) Jag-a-were R convertible. 552 Supercharged horsepower is enough for me. That said, it's the looks I get that make it.

Custom paint on a custom stock doesn't make it shoot any better, neither does engraving (like the Panda for sale here in the for sale ad), but there is something to be said for pride in ownership. I might even say Henderson has "Panache" where Hornady never will.

For all you guys, I have really met Todd in person and shot many matches with him. He is a wonderful guy, he took more then he should of teaching me at his local matches in Tehema Califorina in those local PRS matches. He also shot many matches at our local prs matches at PVGC matches. I have a lot respect for Todd taking the time to help me out during these matches,. I am or was 56 years old at these matches. And he such a great guy, I stand behind his products and hope he over comes this copy cat product. I have been following this thread for a week now, for all you people that do not know Todd personally he is really a great guy. Just my two cents.

I am S-L-O-W-L-Y working my way towards shifting the new LE Wilson single stage press down to second place on the wish list, and sliding one of these Henderson trimmers to the #1 spot. Hornady is making me do it!
This has been interesting, to say the least.
