What stopped you from making(selling) them instead of Hornady? Too much money already? Better yet, why didn't you design it in the first place?

I'm not saying what they are doing is somehow wrong, I would do the exact same thing, until the market changed.

I was just illustrating how competition works. If you are selling widgets for $800 that cost you $100 to make, someone is going to come along and sell that same widget for $600.

I won't be buying either trimmer. I have a $150 Forster Power case trimmer that goes on my $200 Craftsman drill press, and I can trim/chamfer,deburr up to 600 cases in an hour. And the drill press isn't a one trick pony. That's what works for me.

I have, and almost certainly will never own one. But that's not the point of the thread or many folks arguments either way. I'm perfectly happy using my old school cheap trimmer I've had something like 30 years.

I had to switch to Varget because my supply of H4985 is dwindling and I want to save it for next hog season. Varget shoots terrific with their 60 Vmax in my 8" twist Tikka Varmint which I am gearing up for predator season. I wanted to get Hornady's load data but didn't want to buy the book just for a small piece of load data and this does the job. Thanks!

The Hornady may encourage Henderson to move faster on producing a micrometer trim length adjuster. The Hornady will likely make Henderson more quality and price conscious. All good with me.

How are you guys defining “moral”? Here is a good definition: concerned with the principles of right and wrong behavior and the goodness or badness of human character.

I don’t see this as a moral issue- right vs wrong/ goodness or badness. More like a business decision that has no bearing on ethics or morality.

And yes, I have a Henderson. I don’t plan to trade it in to buy a Hornady any time soon.

I'll respond to that...

Lets assume that Todd had hours and hours and possibly thousands of dollars in proving out his design before bringing it to market. This is fair with this sort of thing but not always the case. I can tell you it's very true with many products!

The man goes along making a great, very high quality product for several years and selling it at what he and his customers were happy with, given the quality that HE produced them in. It becomes an income source that he and his family depend on and he invests his time into to produce...possibly his only income after a while, or sooner.

Along comes a big company, with lots of money, great marketing.. and yes..lawyers. They aquire one of his products, sends or takes it directly to one of their established vendors of cheap labor and half assed products in communist China and asks how much to make this. The quality is likely not the same. Maybe it's close and maybe it's not, but that last little bit is often where the price comes from..all else equal, which it is not if buying it from child labor communist China.

Back to the point...the man and his family likely came to depend on the income from his business. Now, a big money marketing company takes his product to China where it can be made cheaper and puts that man out of business. I ask this...How is it right, that we, as Americans can support that in any way. Forget that he was one of us, the shooting community. Shouldn't matter because being a member has notta to do with right and wrong. It has notta to do with supporting communist child labor factories nor democracy and free enterprise. But those are factors to right and wrong to Americans and those of us that care about people and their families. China is already eating us alive and spitting us out...and I don't believe their moral compasses are such that they give a damn about any of us or our families.

Who knows??? Maybe Hornady is sharing with him in some way for his costs and labor. I would only hope so, as it's the right thing to do...IMHO. And no, it really shouldn't require a lawyer to get them to come to an agreement with him to do so. Just my 2 cents. Fat chance is my guess but I'd love to eat those words!!

You're a lawyer and I love ya but your post sounds like lawyer speak to me. Legal is defensible in court but not always defensible in the eyes of the public nor our Creator. Hence the moral aspect that I mentioned.

Now you can't give one away. They're climbing over each other now for a Garmin. Either one won't help you shoot any better. At least Hornady tries to appeal to the shooter without such a deep pocket so he can impress his friends with how much money he can spend for nothing.
You can count on me to do an evaluation on a case trimmer when someone gets it down to $40.

When FA comes out with the exact same unit...at 299.00. What will Hornady do? Hornady has made base model junk for years. Sold at Bass Pro amongst others. Let's face it...RCBS and Hornady and FA are base model junk to most of us. There is so.mu h more out there that yields better results. A new Super Bass Pro was opened next to me recently. They closed a Cabelas and old Bass Pro.
This new store is like walking g through Walmart...cold. Full of base model junk. That's not what real people want. They want specialized product. Good stuff. Anyone spending 600 on this hornady product will surely consider the Henderson. No substitute for quality product. American made product. Watch how this plays out!
