They designed the bullet first, and started from a clean sheet. For whatever dumb reason it's not even really a .277... it's a .278.

Most of the SAAMI listed 270 calibers spec the bullets at .278 max dia with a tolerance of -.003

While I don't think I'll be buying a rifle that handles 80 Kpsi ammo, I do wonder if 6.8x51 will be approved as a F-TR round.

I'm no expert but I think most custom actions made will easily handle 80 K.

Back to the purpose of my question, I wonder if/when 6.8x51 will become a caliber approved for shooting F-TR? I see a lot of benefits in the 7 mm bullet.

No matter what, I think what ever they call it, they should also include “Creedmoor”, so any potential foe would flee in panic at just the mention of it.

let them do away with 5.56 and 7.62. maybe i will get to buy a bunch of military surplus on the cheap.

Remember, all of that “pull down” powder that we in Short Range BENCHREST enjoyed for so many years was from obsolete cold weather NATO ammunition sold in bulk.
