Looking for precision weight scale

You don't need to hit the PowerBall to get a Gen2, just work OT like I did and save your pennies, my time is important to me, so any money spent that will speed up reloading(Co-Ax Giraud Prometheus) without compromising is money well spent in my book, I still need/want a precision digital scale for other tasks like weighing cases/bullets, weighing cases full of water, and double checking charge weights, I foresee a FX-120 in my future.

Got mine last Tuesday and am ecstatic with how well it works! Used it to load up rounds for the new 6BR that shot several groups in the .2 range out of the gate. I haven't even set the windows up on mine.

Just to add to weights...a Varget kernel is usually .02 grains ;D

Thanks lil evil, just ordered one,

Thanks lil evil! Ordered my fx120i Thursday, was shipped Friday and got it Monday ( it is helpful to be only 400 km/250miles from Cambridge Enviro.

Looking forward to loading up some 6.5's

Ps I have been reading this forum for a few years but I thought I would post a thanks.

I am also looking for a good scale and the AND FX-120i looks great on paper. Is there anyone out there that has been using this scale for awhile, info would be greatly appreciated.

I'm using mine for swaging lead cores down to +/-0.05 grains and weighing out jackets before swaging into long range target projectiles.

Best $600 I spent and at $400 I'm thinking about buying a 2nd and 3rd set to increase production and have as a backup. :)

I guess they ran out of stock in GA - I ordered mine Monday a week ago and the order has never updated to show tracking like the email invoice I received said it would. After requesting an update via phone now for a few days in a row, I finally get told by Cambridge sales rep its been shipped but from CA, not GA and not Canada.

Sales rep told me I'd have the scale today, but when I pull it up with the tracking they provided, its just left CA and not scheduled for delivery until Wed (estimated) next week. Sales also told me it took time to unpack the scale and verify operation and then re-pack it for shipment. Anybody else heard this?
If it came from CA it may have been sent to you directly from A&D in San Jose which is the main US office for A&D and where Cambridge gets these scales. I know that the Cambridge sales rep said that all of a sudden they were receiving a lot of orders for these scales for what they thought from the telephone calls they received may be for reloading. All this started to happen about the same time that "lil evil" posted about the $400 price for the FX-120i.

I ordered mine on the 15th (supposed to get it tomorrow) and UPS tracking showed it left from Doraville, GA.

is anybody not happy with the fx120i scale ?

I have 2 of them that I've been using for nearly 2 years now. I'm very happy with them and I think they're the best reloading balance you can get without spending near to $1000. The only observation I have is that if they are not warmed-up for long enough, and if zero-tracking is unable to operate, they can drift a little compared to something like a Denver Apex (which was a $1000+ balance).

Normally you won't see the drift because zero-tracking eliminates it, but if you switch the balance on and leave a static weight on it for an hour or two (so that it isn't reading close-to zero, and therefore zero-tracking isn't working) then I see a noticeable drift over a few hours (even with a very stable temperature environment). With a long enough warm-up time the drift is significantly reduced.

So, in summary, allow at least 24 hours of warm-up, and make sure your weighing workflow allows the balance to 'see' zero for a few seconds each cycle so that zero-tracking can function.

Can you trickle with the FX120i? Does it respond to trickling without going over?

The response time is very fast due to the force restoration load cell, so it is ideal for trickling into. My automatic dispenser, which is based on a fx120i, delivers a 46 grain charge +/- 0.02 in about 6 seconds from placing the empty pan on the balance. It will probably take a little longer by hand though.

I trickle with mine. Still old-school with throwing the load to within .1 and than trickle in the rest. My trickler sits on the back of the balance and the pan I use is placed under it to trickle in the rest. It takes a few tries before you figure out how much to twist for each powder, but works to within .02. Once I get there it only takes one kernel of Varget to make the last .02.

Glad I saw this post! I ordered mine and had it within 3 days. This should help reduce some vertical! Very pleased with the scale and it cannot be beat for the price.

Could you please elaborate on your "automatic dispenser" setup.
I would love to completely throw and weigh (deliver) a charge in 6 seconds.

The dispenser is a work in progress. I'm looking forward to getting it finished, then I'll be able to tell you all about it.

Pretty hard to do any better than an RCBS 10-10 for handloading purposes. If your needs include larger than 1000gr objects and/or shapes that don't fit the pan, well that is another story...

For precision on the order of to the tenth of a grain set your scale to zero using a Deluxe Check Weight set when setting up to measure for a particular load. The deluxe check weight set allows great variation from .05gr to 200gr with multiples of 200 and 20gr weights.

Nice to have a magnifying headset if you really want to see the level hashmarks and a ground plate or uniformly smooth surface to position scale upon. Have never used an electronic powder meter or scale. Checking weight to exact spec when setting up to load gives great peace of mind, especially when using a powder measure. Set measure to throw charge a couple tenths under if exact load is your goal. Dribble the last few granules. Works fast enough. If using less than max charge, just zero the measure and go for it.

Advice from Cambridge as of the 31st August they were completely out of stock of AND FX-120i and no more until mid September.
No mention of a price increase.

regards.
Mike.

p.s about a hundred bucks postage to Australia.

I ordered a FX-120i from Cambridge. It Originally said they would have some on Sept. 12th. Now its Saying late September. I guess they have a lot of back orders. Thats fine with me as long as I'm in line to get one.
