Long range load development at 100 yards.

I'd say between #4 and #5 and start seating depth Chrono #4,5 loads. And post results. Let one of the experts chime in first to see what they say.

Might have somthing between 7 and 8 also.

I agree with Hollywood. Chronograph results will help narrow down the node.

That Vizio tv must have taken it hard :'(

This made me LOL! ;D

Thanks for the input. The most consistent vertical looks like 7 & 8 to me I just dont under stand how the one shot was so far left of the two right shots that are almost in the same hole. 7 was done on a hot barrel 5 minutes after 6. 8 was after about 20 minutes of the barrel cooling. If 4 & 5 was the node I probably would not have to worry about adjusting the distance from the lands. What loads should I chrono just do 4 & 5 or should i add one in between? do the same with 7 & 8?

Thanks

glider the pics speak for themselves- this definitely tells you something using a berger. it pretty clear load 1 is low and scatters then then I find vertical for a while as the groups tighten before I the final load scatters again. I just picked the top of my load range of 65.5 to 72.9 starting around 69 since there had to be a node somewhere in the top range.

pretty happy with what i am seeing for this being a factory Remington especially if I can keep the groups tight like 4 & 5

Yes there is nothing wrong with using any bullet at this distance. Some of the best 1000yd Benchrest shooters tune their loads at 100yds and they use hybrid and vld bullets. Used it recently to work a good 6BR load with JLK VLD's and will be using it again in a few weeks for berger hybrids and vld's. It works.

Seems this load is holding. First target is day one of powder testing I did.

Initial testing

This next charge test was completed after I selected a seating depth(seating test was on another target)

The final test was done to confirm and try one charge lower to see window. Top row is 42.1 and continues to 43.3. Bottom tarrget by itself was sighters at 42.1gr

Seems like 42.1 to 43.7 is window that shows stability?

I would stay between 42.1 and 42.4

Thanks. I may investigate the higher node later. Going to shoot 42.1 to 42.7 at 1000 to see. Seems 43 to 43.6 might be something? If I tweaked seating depth again

On the upper target, it says 200 yards and shows a very good MOA for that range. Is that legit or did you have the wrong distance dialed in to the On Target program? That's something I've done in the past.

It was all at 100 yards. I just noticed that

I've done that myself after shooting at 200 yards. When I score the next batch (shot at 100 yards), the 200 yard distance "sticks" when using On Target Software. My first thought is, "Wow............. these are REALLY great groups". Then comes the agony of defeat when I realize I had input the wrong target distance. Changing the distance to 100 yards brings me back to reality............. sigh.

I would like someone's input on this target. Note that these were almost the first rounds through the barrel. I broke the barrel in with 10, and then five to zero the scope.

The first number beside the groups is the displacement of the center relative to X, the second the distance relative to the center of the group (value is half the group size, so expressed at +/-.)

Does this set suggest I should stay between 52.6 and 52.9 grains?

Thanks.

I predict your final load to be around 52.8 or 52.9 it could be higher or lower depending on weather conditions. For the sake of the argument here load 52.8 and go to seating depth testing. You may experience a speed up around 100-200 rounds which could throw you out of tune. Load back to re find it if that happens.

I would look at 52.6-52.9gr.

I would look at going a little higher. In fact, I would probably do a ladder test and load 1-2 rounds in 0.5 gr increments all the way up to say 55gr and shoot them low-to-high to determine your max load in your rifle.

I suspect you would suspect you would find something higher if you want a little more speed. My fireform load for my 284 shehane is 54gr H4831SC.

Also, I noticed the hybrids (if you are shooting hybrids) seem to like to be jumped. I would try that also.

.204 ruger, Remington 700 trued with factory barrel, loads from left to right 27gr BL-c2 to 29gr in .5gr increments, OAL 2.430 which is .015 off the lands, Remington 7.5 primers, Norma brass, 39gr Sierra BK. Any input Erik? Or anyone else?

between your 3 and 4 string.

Hi Erik,

Need your help to review my 2 targets as attached. Sorry I don't have chrono data, still waiting for the Oehler.

Shot with Scenar-L 175gn and VV N150.
Seat depth on land at 2.351 (OAL 2.942) and set it at 2.330 (OAL 2.920)
1st target done at 100m and 2nd target at 300m.

In the 1st test, 46gn of N150 shows no over pressure signs.
Did the 2nd test as I would like to know if could get higher MV using 46.5gn, and judging from the primer cup and bolt lift I think that's the max I could go.

Really hope both targets could give enough information to find the node.

Thank you very much Erik, looking forward for your feedback.
