Long range load development at 100 yards.

I've never had one that kept moving left like JASON50CAL's rifle does as the powder charge goes up. That is interesting. I'm going to say between 49 and 49.5 based on vertical dispersion and POI similarity. However, I'd be interested to see if you got the same results if you shot that test again. At least try the 51.5 and 52 grain charges again.. Good luck with it Jason...

I was wondering about that also. I haven’t seen one move horizontally like that that either

Ok this is my first try at ocw method with a new rifle I had built. 6.5x284 with 142gr SMK’s and H4831SC. Excuse the bad target but it was what was available at the time. I don’t see any change vertically in groups, only a horizontal change as charge weight goes up. If I’m reading it right it would appear between 49-50hr is a node with 49.5 showing the least amount of vertical. Seating depth was .010 jam for this test.
Holding “gangster-style”?

I learned a lot from this thread. The bottom row is powder testing. From left to right is 78.8-79.1-79.4-79.7. 3 shot groups. Looks like I need to keep going. Thought about trying 79.6-79.9-80.2. Top row was a seating depth test for another rifle. I did shoot a ladder at 300 yards a few weeks ago and had 79.8-80-80.2 shoot same horizontal.

Taking what I learned from this great post and putting it together with my rookie opinion, I would agree with you, increase your powder weight a little till your groups open back up then back off. After that fiddle with your seating depth to fine tune.

I'm a total rookie in F Class and long range shooting in general. I am a reader so hopefully all the research is being put to good use. Load developing for an F T/R .308. Lapua brass, Berger 200.20x's, Varget, BR2 primers, Bartlein 30"
5r heavy palma, Stiller TAC30, McMillan F Class, Sioghtron SIII 10-50x60.

I did not go below 43.0 but 43.0-43.2 line up well and there is likely a correlation to 42.8 as well. Velocity was flat between those loads as expected given the water line at those loads. 2622fps average. All these were seated .017 off.

Seating depth test today. Really amazing to me how much even .003 can make. .011 off seems the clear choice.

Terry.... for my 2 cents... I'd check to see it .011 is repeatable...if not... then try 43.8 of powder... because the ones on both sides are on the same POI.... then... .014 seating depth because it's in the center of the other two that have the same POI... and or level point. The 011 looks great, but it's right on the edge of .008...not in the center... like 014.
