Jb use..?

Unless you develop a carbon ring JB should not be needed, IMHO. Yes, i have a borescope.

whatever works for you but.....

if you want to keep the throat of your rifle clean of carbon, periodic short stroking with jb or losso on a patch wrapped around a parker hale jag is very effective.

a borescope is the best way to monitor this area for cleaning frequency and effectiveness. You would be surprised what a chamber and bore you think is clean really looks like. i know i was.

barrels are consumables just like bullets and powder.

I've never had a problem with carbon on custom barrels with my cleaning regime (borescope verified). Factory barrels are different. I am aware of what a crystal clean bore looks like, I scope everyone before, during and after chambering. If you are having carbon issues, you could look at changing your cleaning regime or try some different carbon removers. Mercury Quicksilver Power Tune has always worked great for me.

Talc will barely polish auto LACQUER much less steel.

Like I said, it a hardness thing. Quite brilliant really. It has enough abrasive to remove or grab the abrasive soft materials but not enough to cut the steel.

Tell that to the prisoners who have cut through prison window bars with dental floss coated with toothpaste. In time I know my barrel will suffer some degree of wear from my Iosso paste scrubs....however, it will be replaced from a eroded throat/leade well before I damage it enough to matter....from experience.

the question asked was "how"
the answer is
READ THE INSTRUCTIONS
most people do not follow the instructions ( i have seen enough posts).
you are SCRUBBING , a loose patch is useless as is a mop.
i saw one post in this thread that had it correct.
wrap a patch on a (wrap) jag.
this will be a tight fit and you will have to work at moving it.

I routinely and aggressively scrub my varmint barrels with Iosso and never suffered loss of accuracy or premature barrel failure. In fact accuracy always improves over the dirty state. I clean conventionally with carbon and copper solvents, brushes and patches every time I shoot but every 150 rounds or so it's time for Iosso. I wrap a paper towel strip approx one and a half times around a brush one caliber smaller than the bore so the fit is tight. 25-30 strokes typically. I then run many wet swabs of any type of solvent followed by dry patches to make sure all traces of Iosso are gone before shooting. I own a borescope which led me to cleaning with Iosso.

I have watched JB being use at the monthly groundhog matches and I still have not reached a decision as to whether or not it has a premature wear effect on barrels when used sparingly.

Brownells sells a thing called a VG pellet. You have to buy a special threaded jag to put them on but it is a felt "tube". They work very well for any of the mechanical cleaners. JB also makes a non embedding paste.its grey the rouge one is red. They both have a place. The VG pellets work well

Just wondering what Henry and Charles (Reed & Barton) would have to say on the subject?

For me,the main problem with JB and Remington 10X,isn't the judicious use, being a touch lazy.......but the work it takes to get it thoroughly cleaned out?I do use them, occasionally. Mostly on used(abused),new to me factory brrls when changing over to a diet of cast bullets.

When you guys use jb bore paste do you just use a patch or a patch wrapped around a old brush..?

Thanks..
I use a patch & a jag w JB. after Butches etc. Works great. Not sure why all the fuss. You can see the carbon on the patch - it's not barrel steel. If JB was an inferior product, the market would effectively end its use and production. Not an expert here.

Thats not carbon on the patch. If you dont believe that just rub it on the outside of your barrel.
Like everything in life you must stick to a modest amount of something. I use jb a lot both red and blue and use iosso and flitz. They all have their place but like hot coffee and wet floors its not for everybody!! ( that last half of my rant wasnt pointed at you there 10ring- just a general rant)

Ouch guys this post kinda hit a nerve... Sorry... I only use this for the removing of stuff nothing else will , not everyday.. Or in the horrible factory barrels that you guys wouldn't look twice at... For instance the barrel of the 22lr that I have cleaned 10 times on a cheap 6 shooter that never got clean with brushes , foam , butches etc..

A few patches of jb and about 6 passes through got stuff out that you couldn't even tell that was there.. I am saying a rough bore from the factory and I mean rough visually with a flashlight rough... The junker shoots good for what it is , a toy , I just was trying to smooth things out a bit and get the horrible factory gunk out... Which it did...

I don't think anyone here is useing this stuff everyday , and the previous post I have read were about 60/40 on the use of it... Not talking about getting crazy with it..lol For the guys that use it for the same purpose , I was asking patch or old wore out brush with a patch wrapped around for this purpose...

I think the answer was brush with a patch wrapped around it.... Thanks guys..

If you must use JB's try this. I put several drops of Kroil on a patch, then rub in the JB paste before wrapping around a nylon brush. I short stroke this in the throat and the first few inches of the bore to deal with the carbon ring, and any roughness in the first few inches of the bore. I have found no degradation of accuracy when doing the every 300 rounds or so. Moderation is the key here.
I hope this helps,

Lloyd

J B 's, NO ! I prefer Cats urine. The most critical thing i feel is it must come from an American Breed such as a Tabby, or American shorthair, although French cats produce a more aromatic cleaner.
The Cat must be on a strict liquid diet of Whole milk, no 2%,Skin, or almond milk.Water must be filtered, no spring or tap water.
The Litter box that is used for collection of this barrel cleaner must be immaculate and sanitized for quality control. Place 400 patches in the bottom of the litter box, once the cat produces this HIGH quality cleaner place the patches in a jar with a tight fitting lid. To use, place patch on jag and put 2 drops of tequila and 1 drop of Robutussin (Cherry Flavor ) cough syrup on the patch and run through the bore.DO NOT STROKE BACK AND FORTH ! Push the patch straight through. Repeat until clean. Remember, this product is made 100% in the U S A.
NO Cats were harmed in the production of this product.

Wow again you guys must be sniffing to much cleaning solvent.
Let me say this, my buddy Eddie was National Champ last year was Two gun over all champ at Williamsport last year broke our light gun group record won the World Open the year before and guess what he uses JB every time he cleans. Puts it on a soft nylon brush, shot strokes it 100 times then wraps patches on a brush and cleans some more. last year was his fifth year on the barrels, He shot a 5"- 100 last match, but told me he was changing barrels they have been on to long. So it has not done diddly squat to his barrels or mine. Have some balls just us it. I also clean the excess out with KROIL.
