JB Bore Paste

i SECOND THE MOTION ON MONTANA BORE SOLVENT ESPECIALLY THE 50 BMG STUFF FOR BADLY FOULED BORES.iT WORKS BETTER THAN SWEETS. I have used jb on occasion and stroke the barrel about 4 or 5 times and go back to butches and brakleen.I usually use BBS in everything and have tried everything but sometimes you just need something extra.I am a precision grinder by trade and .0002 tenths is almost unbelievable as I have to grind it off parts everyday. It takes alot to remove that much metal. Use JB sparingly and you wont hurt a thing.Use it to much and game over.It was never meant to be a daily cleaner.

Right now I am using Montana Extreme and I have not used any kind of paste in years. My bbls are either Rock Creeks or Kreigers.

I use JB paste sparingly but only as a last resort. My cleaning procedure has undergone evolution over the years and I've learned to avoid the impatient want of scrubbing with a brush in favor of a more patient foam soaking cycle, letting those good non harming foams soak and chemically dissolve the fouling. This process takes at least 24 hours, usually longer. In detail:

Once the shooting is completed and the barrel still warm, shoot a cleaning foam agent down the length of the bore and cover the muzzle to control leakage.

Let the foam agent soak for a few hours. Then with a coated dewey rod and bore guide run a few Butch's Bore Shine saturated patches down the barrel to push out the bad stuff.

Invariably there will be more fouling to clean. So I simply repeat the process. If after, say, 4 to 5 cycles stubborn fouling remains I'll break out the JB paste and run about 10 passes through the length of the bore and follow up with more Bore Shine. Then let the Bore Shine soak a few hours. Bottom line: use both caution and common sense when using JB Paste. Aggressive scrubbing is not recommended.
