I would say, it is the person shipping the items to be responsible for how well they are packaged
The receiver has no way of doing anything about this on their end.
I've had people throw items in a plastic baggie and put them in a box as if the plastic bag is somehow going to contain things???

When i see a seller say "if you want insurance you'll have to add money for that" it's a red flag and I move on because clearly they don't really know anything about it. Because while shipping damage is largely out of anyone's control, the shipper controls the packaging and the buyer controls nothing.

In private party sales I'm a firm believer that the seller owns the responsibility of getting the goods to the buyer. That includes insurance (if the seller wants it) and robust packaging.

And realizing there are Mannnny people who would likely sign on to sue USPS
The same as one of my attorneys handled a wrongful death suit for me, nothing up front, no fees except for their percentage.
Or a like minded individual who can at least direct me in all the proper paperwork to file
I just found a case won against USPS with a settlement for $26 million
(Different circumstances but still a win against them)
I am already aware of the Federal Tort Claim Act of 1946
So the Sovereign Immunity doctrine does not always apply

I ship a finished product that cost the consumer upward of 2K$$$$ every time I print a label, so his merchandise is my number 1 concern, unfortunately online box stores don't take the time or care that I do or that you'd like to receive.
Last time I'm gonna say this....
1-Shipping is the biggest time and money suck a shipper has to deal with
2 your package has no feelings, only you do!
3 Fragile means let's play football to a carrier

Well that's on you.
Trust me I package my product in a way I want to receive it.
Shipping insurance is a scam to get more money out of you to deliver the same parcel to the same location as normal rates.
I've only ever filed 2 claims, and both were denied.

However, I don't mind taking the extra time to package something well to ensure the customer receives it
and receives it in good condition.
I think that aspect of care helps build good repeat business

Agreed, and am learning the whole extra insurance thing is a scam now
Especially after reading one persons barrel got "Prorated"
If you pay x amount of insurance, you have paid the fees they asked for and should be entitled to said amount of insurance paid for, not what "they think" its worth.
So many things the USPS should be answering for ya know?

Ya know a thought,
They do ask before hand if there are any liquids, acids, toxic etc
maybe I'll check into shipping things that way, even if it cost more might be the same price as extra insurance
I do know when I order powder and primers and that Big Orange EXPLOSIVE sign is on the side,
they seem to respect the package more

There has been too many of these threads… it’s simple STOP USING USPS. I know, YOUR post office is full of nice people, your post person is fantastic… the ape’s they hire behind the counter and at the hubs have got to be the worst examples (or best) of “government employees”. I quit shipping with them years ago. Set up your own personal UPS account, it’s easy. Yes, they damage stuff, they loose stuff, at a WAY smaller rate then USPS. (Knock on wood) I have yet to have anything shipped UPS destroyed or lost. Package it well, tape is your friend, attach THEIR label well so it can’t get destroyed easily, if you want the package oriented (this end up) a certain way put the label on TOP.

I am not a FTP type person but am definitely a FTUSPS person.

I would have put a complete layer of clear shipping tape on that box ~ maybe a double layer considering the content.

I do wrap my boxes in that way, wrap tape all the way around, and on both ends
and "fully" tape over the label expecting it to get snagged or ripped.
I suggest the same for everyone as well.
