USPS Damaged Goods Claim Filing Nightmare

You are dealing with one of the least accountable entities in the country with the USPS. A few years ago, one of their drivers crossed a double yellow line, nearly hit me head on while I had my wife, toddler, and infant sons in the back seat. Caused $9,000 damage to my truck. She then drove away from the scene and I had to chase her down and call the cops. Cop was too lazy to even visit the actual scene of the accident 1/2 mile down the road since it was pouring rain so she did'nt even issue a ticket. USPS told me I could either have my insurance pay for it or I could take my chances and wait months for them to review and then deny my claim against them. I truly despise the USPS. I also don't care for lazy cops who don't issue tickets and assign fault simply because they don't want to have to investigate the crash or go to the court dates.
My insurance would have said “hold my beer” and busted the cops and the usps’s ass on that one

thats one of the reasons why I have a dash cam

Attempted a claim once with USPS on a bolt that they threw into a lake! Looked like that anyway. Never again. I took care of my customer personally. Shipping insurance is one of the biggest rackets going to generate income. 99% of my customers don't insure. Just my personal experience.

I had a barrel that burned up in a fire on a UPS truck. They contacted me!!! Told me that my package burned up and to submit this form.

After several phone calls, and being on hold for hours to talk to stoned people that had no clue how to do their jobs, I gave up.

FedEx now!!!

USPS is the only shipper that offers options for valuables like precious metals, etc. You MUST use Registered mail for anything of importance and/or value. Registered mail is transferred and tracked "person to person". Packages we've shipped valued at 30,40 50,000$ and never a problem. Shipments were packaged by the Post Master to insure they met their requirements.

Hope you get it worked out

FedEx is no better than the Post Office. They shipped a thousand rds of ammo last yr to NM for me. Ammo never showed up. Their reaction, ''Sorry. These things happen".

Sent 500 JLKs on a trade checked trakin information for 3days periodically it never changed from the 2nd day checking I gave it 2 more days checked it was in the same place went my local were I no the lady very well she got on the phone for me calling the facility they told her the package was damaged on the anamated belt the box opened and they put contents in the box and sent it to Georgia facility for damage and opened boxes she said I will hear from them with information how to get package back okay finally 3 months later after I made it right on the trade I received my shipping label in an evidence envelop say that this all we found of your package I went through all the proper paperwork and emails and phone calls in the end I NEVER got anything back from them and they stopped returning my emails VERY BAD BUSINESS USPS IS A JOKE THEY REALLY JUST DON'T CARE

USPS is great! They work very hard at getting millions of things where they are supposed to get to when they are supposed to get there...like each and every day! One of the most incredibly efficient organizations on the planet.

I purchased some used snowmobile parts about 15 years ago and they were insured and were damaged on the way to me. It was a nightmare, forms were filled out by me then it would be weeks later I needed another form, then that form would get lost, start over from the beginning, repeatedly. I started sending the forms that needed to go the the main usps office “signature required” via fed ex or UPS. It was finally denied almost a year later. My blood pressure still goes through the roof when I think about it.

Yes, but they need to make it right when things go wrong. Everyone understands stuff happens. When you pay for something (insurance) and they screw it up and refuse to give you what you purchased, that sorta falls into theft in my book and showing a lack of any integrity. Oh wait, are they run by the federal government?

Good luck. I've pretty much stop sending firearms related things via USPS. If it's a firearm. I just let a friend who is a FFL deal with it. I've had buyers complain why there brass was delivered in a plastic bag, when it was shipped in a box, very secure and wrapped and tapped. Insurance is a joke. They have you doing the round around all the time.

yup. they are certainly very efficient at filling my mail box with solicitations, advertising and other bulk mailings. i am thinking of putting an old shredder on a post at the box, just for giggles.

I too, have had several damaged or lost claims with usps. None resolved where I received any compensation at all ....sorry not our problem... they always have an "escape hatch", like the vendor never packaged it correctly...better luck next time.

I had a similar problem. Worst of all after 24 days after it was shipped the seller on ebay was fighting me tooth and nail. He is a popular barrel seller on ebay. I had purchased 3 barrels prior to this and no problem.

60 days or so latter after UPS issued a claim to me and he got it canceled some how it arrived. He would not refund me or send me another one.

I have all the emails and screen shots!

I am not naming him because I eventually got it in spit of him and UPS. Not going to be petty. I have had an ebay account 1995 and purchase things every other week at least and can count on one hand the times I have had problems with sells on one hand with fingers left over.

For what it's worth and I do not have an affiliation with Pirate Ship , but I have been using them for a couple years with great success. It is free to set up an account and use. They will search for best price with USPS and UPS and you print the label through them. You can add insurance through them, I believe they use Shipsurance that costs about $0.80 per $100 value. Claims go through them instead of carrier.
Full disclosure: I have never had to make a claim so don't speak through experience on their claim process, but their shipping cost has saved me money and simplified things for me.
