Issues with Damaged Boxes at Post Office

How about this one to Australia! Indianapolis is in the wrong direction.
Look at the time!

It left here a month ago and it's new home is Indiana I guess!

The Indianapolis hub is a shit show. So much so, the post office received a Congressional inquiry about it from every Congressman & Senator in this state, both parties.

I have two shotguns in bound sitting in Indianapolis over two weeks. I am about ready to report them as stolen. Ridiculous!

Yeah, you go postal. Good one. You think they care. It’s not a private, for profit business, it’s the government. A unionized, government, entity. Somewhere in the founding documents it says they are a regulated monopoly.

This is what government looks like. Have them run healthcare. Look at any of the alphabet agencies. Why is Elon doing that doge thing?

But yeah, seem surprised, and get an attorney so you can take that stand. Or perhaps quit using them? Brown truck guy is union too, but still has to provide a service that people are willing to pay for.

Its definitely turned into a sh*tshow there as of late. When I package things I will go the extra yard because I know they are not going to. Bulk the boxes up inside so they cant crush. Small parts in an envelope inside the box and taped to the inside of the box. Filament tape both ways and all seams. You have to make it bulletproof or you will get screwed.

You ever heard the term "fight city hall"? That's what you'll be doing going after the USPS.
PACK THE BOXES SO IT TAKES ALL DAY TO GET IT OPEN!! That way, no excuses!! Make them USPS Proof!!
Now, if you've got BIG $$$$ to burn and WILL live past 105 years, go for it and report back how you make out or, if you can't write anymore, have your care giver write the note for you so we'll the outcome. ;)

Shipped a box of muzzleloader "parts" back East. to be built into a Flint Lock Fowler. Got there in good condition. Fowler got built and returned to me in EXCELLENT condition.
Shipping crate was built out of wood and the Fowler was padded/wrapped in plastic with spray on insulation foam all around it. Took almost an hour to get it open.
Post Master said it was THE BEST packing job he had EVER SEEN!!
You could have shipped a car engine in that crate!!

While in front of Congress, questioning about USPS delivery/costs the Postmaster General Louis Dejoy gave himself an "A". Than covered his ears like a child, repeatedly ignoring questions. I'm sure employees in the USPS system are not worried about their QA or their job status.

You used the box they supplied and their incompetent DEI employees destroyed it and lost your parts!!! Incredible, how can they refuse to pay off? Looks to me like they have painted themselves into a corner. Take the hard line with them and don't back down.

yes this!!!!! gotta use lots of good tape and a box in a box. expect the worse.

Unlike you/us, the box has no feelings.
As told to me by a postal worker.
Tape is your friend, shipping is the biggest time and money suck a shipper has.

If you’re talking about the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, it’s being shut down as we speak.

As for the packaging strategies I agree package it as if you expect someone to try and destroy it. But that can only do so much. I review customer specs at my work and I’ve had a few come in saying that our crating should prevent damage during shipping and storage. Uh, hard no. Impossible. Nice try to make all shipping and storage incidents my responsibility Mr Customer by blaming everything on crates. (Our product is machinery so a forklift drop or on-road accident would be more than wooden crating could ever withstand)
I would say, it is the person shipping the items to be responsible for how well they are packaged
The receiver has no way of doing anything about this on their end.
I've had people throw items in a plastic baggie and put them in a box as if the plastic bag is somehow going to contain things???
This post is to also meant to help people understand
Treat your sent items as if they are the crown jewels or the microfiche for National Security
Wrp them well, padd them, tape them, tape them to inside of the box
Everything
Ive had people send me barrels for threading and same thing, box dinged and barrel dented on the end
I always recommend to people ----
---- to send barrel in PVC Pipe,, with Pipe Caps, then run a screw or 3 through the PVC into the pipe cap
Yeah it may be more expensive to send this way, but much cheaper than gambling a barrel
--------------
Another idea, the priority mail boxes, You pay for those when shipping
MTM 50 boxes are about as cheap $(3) and can be used for a shipping container for small items
Thanks for you guys input

That's nuts!
I would also say, try not to use the cheapest Ground method
Priority I have always had best luck with

It doesn't matter how much insurance you buy for your item. USPS doesn't just pay that amount without any questions. Buying $1M worth of insurance on a $200 part only puts more $$ into USPS's hands. They wrote me a check for a little less than $100 on a $450 barrel they lost, stating that the barrel was not new (though it was unused) and they prorated the claim. You still have to prove to them that the item is indeed worth that $1M you say it is.

Telling folks to buy more insurance thinking that will make the USPS 'pay' is not a proper course of action.
This is the kind of thing why I believe a Lawyer would be able to file a major class action against them.
Look at things like how Wells Fargo got popped for excessive overdraft fees

One other aspect of shipping items to somebody else for work being done
I personally DO NOT want to have to make unnecessary repairs on something broken because somebody did not take the time to ship it properly
Not to sound harsh, but that is also not my responsibility
If I receive anything broken because you did not ship it/package it properly
.....I am shipping it right back to you and you can deal with the shipper

Yes. I see how it’d be the same. Wells Fargo is not a government entity. Maybe try to sue the United States Navy. Sue the IRS too. OJ’s attorney won’t take that case. Stop it. :D

Yeah I know it's not the same
yet "SOME" people seem to have no balls to even fight at all
Get my drift, thinking its hopeless and give up before even trying , Screw that.
If that were our attitude how would Gun Rights being fought against STATE entities be going?
Not to get off topic
(BUT I've personally fought the state before a couple times, also for Gun Rights infringed upon and instantly received a Court Order to have my weapon returned, when most would have given up and wrote it off as a loss.......handled my own divorce, child custody proceedings, fought CPS etc, so I know how just one person can accomplish much)
---It's the PRINCIPLE of fighting these supposed untouchable large entities
"You have no rights unless you claim them"

While I agree and admire your enthusiasm, I’m a realist.

I’m an attorney, send me money and I’ll get to work on it Monday morning. We’re going to put the system on trial!!!!
