I dont need a new press...

For those who have commented that I could do better for the money, please be patient with me and my lack of experience. What is it about the press that makes it inferior to other presses? Is there a feature that I need to be thinking about that the Summit does not have? Did you have on e or try one and it just did not perform? I have only owned two presses in my life and I do not know a whole lot about them to be honest.

Thank you!

Andy

Don't make this decision harder than it has to be. Looks like the Summit press will fit your needs. It's good dies that closely match your chamber that produce accuracy. FWIW, some BR competitors take the lowly RCBS Partner Press , machine the ram to create slop, and proceed to win matches where 0.005" or less is a typical difference between 1st and 2nd place.

The Forster CO-AX is the EASIEST to use. No more screwing in and out dies or the need to purchase shell holders, and primer residue ends up in a jar. :)

Agreed! Easiest to use but, unfortunately, also one of the hardest to find :-\ Sure glad I bought mine when I did.

You'll find, as usual, that the naysayers have never owned, nor used the summit press :o

Once I get me bench cleaned up, I'll be switching over to a Redding T7 press for prep work on brass such as expanding necks, decapping etc etc. and a Co-Ax for sizing and seating.

DITTO BIG TIME! Too much comment that doesn't take into consideration what you are attempting to accomplish. Some are brand minded because of personal use and who've NEVER used another specific model of press. Don't bite on opinion alone. Consider what the press does and fits your parameters!

My experience has been only with one press. A Lee classic single stage. It is capable of producing ammunition for my .308 that exceeds my current shooting ability. I went from .75-1.00" 5 shot groups at 100 meters with factory ammo to consistent .3" and .4" 5 shot groups just by reloading my own fire formed brass. And I have a bad habit of drinking a pot of coffee before going to the range. I know there are many here that might scoff at the idea of 3/8" accuracy, but I consider it a major milestone...especially considering I shoot a factory stock, mass produced rifle as well.

I looked through the thread and don't find ANYone saying negative things about the Summit press. I find people suggesting what they know and like as an alternative. Even YOU suggested an alternative.

Yes, I did suggest the Classic Cast, but didn't try to push him away from the Summit. The Classic Cast is far from the most expensive, but happens to be made to much tighter tolerances than the others. Ask one of the best bullet makers on the planet, Randy Robinett, which presses he chose to use, and why ;)

Based on what I have read, Richard Lee was a very brilliant budget minded individual. Cost does not necessarily equate value...Value lies in the results.

Great suggestion! I'd really enjoy hearing from Randy on the subject of "Press Tolerance" and why he uses what he does. His innovations have certainly worked for me, especially on my 30BR.

Call him Alex. He would be happy to tell you. He has access to every press on the market, and found the Lee Classic Cast to be the best. A couple of quotes:

"The Lee offering is the most simple to modify, and quite probably, the most precisely aligned (re-loading style) press available".

"Again, none of my converted RCBS presses (all models/eras) will produce cores as precise as Charlie's ,or the RED uglies, a.k.a. Lee Classic Cast Press".

Please fill in the blanks for a new guy. Why do you prefer the T7 over the Summit? I have no experience with either.

Thank you!

Andy

Choose the press you want, then put your money into the component that creates the straightest ammo. Your properly made, and fitted, dies :)

I can't compare the 2 (I don't have the Summit),But I've used the T7 for some years and it makes some straight ammo. With having a couple of heads I set-up and leave the dies (mulitple cals) set just change heads.
