I dont need a new press...

Right now, .223 and .243. I also have a 7mm SAUM but I have plenty of hunting rounds for it.

The reason for my inquiry, is for yet another option. Though not inexpensive, using properly made dies, the single and double ram presses made by Scotty Crawford are the best on earth. It would be almost impossible to produce ammo other than straight with his presses ;)

Does anyone have a picture of these presses:

Can they still be purchased? And if so where?

Thanks

Certainly they are available. Go to Bulletcentral.com

They are available with, or without, the JLC insert. Scotty makes very few of these each year.

There's one for sale in the classifieds here ...under "Hood Press"

They do Ray, but the difference between them is like night and day. Scotty Crawford designed a few modifications to the original Hood press, turning a very good press into a great press :)

I have one for sale , if L.H. smith don't want it.
mine is one with the adj. size die ,and arbor press. it's an original.

I know one man's experience is only that, so mull it over and make a choice that works for you.

In maybe 1991 or thereabouts I had a Co-Ax that I could not get to produce straight ammo. It was well made and a pleasure to use, but in the end I sold it to a friend who also complained he couldn't get it to produce straight ammo.

After the initial issues with the Summit, I have been producing straight ammunition regularly. It could be any number of factors, but the one factor that is either a feature or a detraction depending on your way of seeing things is that the Summit uses threaded in dies where the Co-Ax used a specific type of lock ring to hold the die in the press. I think I get better consistency with the threaded in dies.

I would choose the Summit again over the Co-Ax having used both.

Midway has the Summit on back order to August! Though I was given some insight from a member here that there is a good chance that the wait will no be nearly that long.

Thanks!

Andy

Midway sucks. They are constantly out of stock on most things I check them for. Precision Reloading, on the other hand, has the Summit in stock, $209.95.

I have honestly not tried Scott's press, but i have tried the Harrells version.
Along with most single stage presses on the market.

And i honestly believe that the best single stage presses for threaded dies, that are available comes from Germany.
In terms of precision and consistency, product quality for that sake.
At least to my findings nothing can quite compare to the Präzipress,.
My Co-ax's and the Harrels turret i was using previously, along with some older ones, have all been replaced.

The only presses i have left is one of the smaller and one of the bigger version, and 2 of Johns Hydro bullet seaters.
Only reloading for rifles and in not too big quantities, so for me it is the perfect setup.
The option for using 1 1/4 -12 threaded dies is also something that i needed, and witch the Co ax could'nt provide.

The whole press except for the bushings used are manufactured in house, machined of high quality steel billets, on some serious CNC machinery, tempered, finished and assembled by hand with excellent QC.
They are not very economical or light weight though.
My heavy press weighs 38 pounds, and requires a sturdy bench.
And the price can be a bit hard to swallow for some.

For anyone interested to take a peak, it's in German though and Google translate don't quite manage to do a proper job.

I recieved my harrells combo press last saturday. I just wish I had purchased this press earlier.
I own two RCBS and a hollywood. Heavy duty work is done on the Hollywood.
The combo should be my #1 very soon.

Don't sweat it. Expensive equipment is not necessary for everyone. Simply knowing one's equipment is the key factor. I sold all my expensive equipment years ago. I don't like presses that utilize cam-over. I was so happy when Lee started making the breechlock presses, Challenger (2nd version) and Classic. They're simple, very strong and no bs. Just remember reloading is not rocket science.

Just curious about your dislike for cam-over? Why?

Yeah... what he asked. If it has cam-over, you don't have to use it! :(

I use collet dies so I don't like camover. I have better feel/control without it. If I were using bushing dies, I'd be ok with camover.
