How to Lower Powder and Primer Prices?

That’s an obvious typo.. I’ve corrected that for you.
March Majesta sell for around $4000 bucks.
I knew what you meant, don't own one, most of my scopes are purchased used anyway. I enjoy quality stuff but no one said I had to pay retail. My $70K truck? Had 900 miles on it and I paid $50k - the 33K trade in so I did okay, It's paid for and in my garage for the last 5 years, I've had to travel for work for the last 15 plus years so a quality truck with good options was a must.

Say LT32 is $500 for an 8 pounder to your door. (I have seen it as low as $430 shipped to your door)

@$500/8 pounder - I'm calculating that each round is more like 26 cents for powder per round (not $2.02)

1 pound = 7000 grains
8 pounds = 56,000 grains
$500/56,000 grains = .00893 = .893 cents per grain
28.8 grains x .893 cents/gr = 25.7 cents -> 26 cents per round.

26 cents for powder
11 cents for primer
40 cents bullet

77 cents per round ?
I stand corrected, was in a hurry this morning before I engaged my mind ;-) :)

My point, and this isn’t directed at anyone in particular is that components are the least expensive part.

I do understand where you are coming from, really. By the time you shoot 100 or 150 rounds you have $100 or more dollars involved, not including travel, gas, motel if you are staving over. I'm blessed with 3 ranges that shoot UBR within an hour of me. The greatest attraction to the shooting sport are the people that are involved.

I wish I could’ve stocked up on eggs when they were a dollar for two dozen probably five years ago or so. I did stock up on H 4895, H4350,primers ,bullets, and brass at prices of yesteryear ($22 lb powder- $28 1K primers ect…) I am glad I learned my lesson and took good notes from one said Mr. William Jefferson Clinton. Said to self, fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me!

Golf - Play 2x per week, average greens fee of $50 w/out cart, that’s $5200 per year before lessons, range time, balls, beers, tips for the cart girls, etc. Just the major consumable cost of golf.

Shooting - 308 Win 175gr hand loads at currents costs = $1.15/round tops. That means that shooting 4500 rounds a year is the same money as golf. That’s essentially an 800agg XTC match ever Saturday for a year.

Have costs gone up on components, absolutely. Is it just powder and primers, no. Is it just shooting sports, no. The cost of everything has gone up. Every single one of us on this forum possesses free will. Spend the money you work hard for on what you want to, or don’t, that’s your choice. But this hobby is still comparable to many others out there and for me personally the satisfaction per dollar is higher shooting than it ever was with Golf, Fishing, etc.

Prices come down when the goods get dusty on a shelf. I don’t think we will ever see prices as low as pre Covid for awhile but when people aren’t buying and demand is low the prices come down. We are starting to see that with primers.. finally. Hopefully they continue to get cheaper.

I have plenty of most of what I need, I always buy when I see a deal, started doing that back in Obama days and will continue to do it. The nice thing about components is you can use them as trading stock, if things get really bad those stash or powder and primers will be worth more than you know not to mention the peace of mind just having them. I was able to help a lot of friends and family during the last shortage and they helped me too.

The recent price increases from some the powder companies is disappointing, especially when they sell it direct too.

There is no argument in the shooting community to the concept that "the libs" and all their billionaire buddies would be in a "conspiracy" to take away gun rights.

No one calls that a "conspiracy theory"...

Yet, if one would logically conclude that the same billionaires would quietly buy up interest in all domestic ammunition manufacturing, in an effort to slowly starve out the shooting community on a permanent basis. This is a crazy "conspiracy theory".

Remember when Vihtavuori was the crazy expensive yuppie powder?

The thing is, it hasn't really come down (at least not noticeably.) All it's competitors have gone up, leaving VV as the cheaper alternative (for the moment.) Kind of surprising as it is all shipped over from Europe.

It'll be YEARS (if ever) before I need to buy powder again.
Primers pretty much the same after my last purchase.
Bullets....That's a bit different.
