How to Lower Powder and Primer Prices?

You would think that ammo makers would be buying direct from powder makers ADI, OLIN, NAMMO, SWISS etc. I just don't see any reason not to , the same for the military.
I mean for the most part aren't we paying Hogdon just to repackage their powders from manufacturers? If ADI sold their powder direct to the consumer here in the US wouldn't that cut the middle man (Hogdon) out and lower prices.

We never discuss this but maybe we should.....
I think a reason why antitrust charges haven't been brought is the consolidation of brands under Hodgdon - which is only a distributor, not a manufacturer - only applies to the market for reloading which seems to be a very small [i.e., tiny] piece of the overall market.

But, I'm not a lawyer.

If it walks like a duck...

Well, after today I think my shooting days are numbered. I went to order LT32 and with shipping and hazmat it would be $500, with bullets being close to $.50 each maybe it's time to close shop. That would be $.009 (corrected) per grain, 28.8 grains is $.2592 per round, $.12 for a primer and .$43 per bullet (about $.81 per round) that gets expensive quick.

I feel like you do. Once I use what components I have on hand - I'm done.

When guys buy a new $6k rifle every year or $4 ( K) scopes, autotricklers and amp annealers, $2 k on a Lenzi rest. Not to mention a $60k truck I know component prices aren’t the sole problem.
Ya’ll want to throw in the towel ? Go ahead’ I’m gonna plan better, shoot the same old Bat B and maybe shoot less, work hard and stay humble.

Not sure where you're getting $4 scopes at (at least ones you can shoot competition with) let me know LOL I get it but there has to be a point were you say enough is enough.

Yep, or sale them and put them towards a new boat and some more fishing tackle
I live where there are great places to fish and boat and I love boats. 13 public boat landings in this county alone, fresh and saltwater. All but one require you to leave an armed guard with your vehicle.

These shooting sports haven't broke me yet, bent me yes, but not broke me. I have probably close to 200 pounds of powder. Probably an extra 20,000 or so LRMP's on top of what I need. I'm short on SRMP'S. My last 48 pounds of powder I bought is VV. Do you all know that Widden's has not gone up price wise on powder in over 2 years?
I was their around New Years and was told that they did not believe John was going to be increasing the powder price anytime soon. But foreseeing the future with tariffs it will have to happen. Still VV 100 series powders will be in the $350.00 range. Still better than anything else going. These days I spent more $$$$ on rimfire shooting. My centerfire is down to around 2000 rounds a year if that. At 65 years old I can shoot for the next 15 years easily and have to buy what bullets I need. The come and go of the Politicians have taught me something. I have bought supplies at times when I really didn't need it and a time or two in my mind paid more than I should have. But it was my money and my choice, no one else's. This has been a good thread and amusing at times.

Say LT32 is $500 for an 8 pounder to your door. (I have seen it as low as $430 shipped to your door)

@$500/8 pounder - I'm calculating that each round is more like 26 cents for powder per round (not $2.02)

1 pound = 7000 grains
8 pounds = 56,000 grains
$500/56,000 grains = .00893 = .893 cents per grain
28.8 grains x .893 cents/gr = 25.7 cents -> 26 cents per round.

26 cents for powder
11 cents for primer
40 cents bullet

77 cents per round ?
