Primer prices

People are hoarding primers cause everyone said this would last for 6 months
well it's going on 3 years and it's not getting any better.
So those that waited, now need primers and the market hasn't caught up
with demand.
This isn't going away soon.
If you want to shoot and don't have primers, guess you'll need to buy some.
And those of you that think that primers will get back to $30-60 per 1000
are just out of touch. Never going to happen now that they know they can charge
$90+ per 1000

I think near by countries to Russia, are gearing up, for what could happen.
Just like old Joe is draining are oil reserves to the market. And reducing production on a pipe dream.. of wind and solar. Think 3rd world. Spent most of my working career in electric utilities, not going to happen at this pace without major pain. The technology isn’t there yet. It took a 100 years to make a good fuel efficient car and truck.
Basically all of NATO is buying what they can because they’ve been cutting and weakening themselves for a couple decades now. Russias invasion and withdrawal from nuclear arms agreements has been a wake up call.

Like I said before. People are whining about primer prices but I can see if you had to buy primers like your buying gasoline. People in general aren't going to use 1000 bucks wort of primers a year. How much do you spend on gas or diesel every week? This primer price thing is petty compared to buying gas or food every week. If people use a brick of primers a month for 12 months at 120 per prick that's only $1440.00 per year which is jack shit. I spend 200 bucks a week for food for 2 people. So I spend more in two month's for food vs spending 120 per month for primers if I bought 1 brick per month. Like I said this whole primer price thing is totally petty. If people can't afford the primers prices then they ought to go out and to get a different job rather than shoveling shit against the tide for 2 bucks an hour.

Are the folks that are boycotting buying primers at these prices not buying gas at today's prices....don't be a hypocrite, stand by your morals.

So do you eat primers, put it in your gas tank to go to work.
Obviously your the one that can spend money on primers no matter what the price good for you. Like I said before not affecting me one bit but I guaran damn tee you it has quite a few that have to make a choice whether to spend that 1440.00 on food or fuel to go to work or get another job to be able to enjoy shooting.
I know its all about me myself Iand I, because I can fugg everbody else.

Jim the 1440.00 is just the extra costs for primers, what about powder, bullets etc.
This sport is going down the same path I saw Nascar in the early 2000's when I was nascar racing, now you have about 3-4 teams that pretty much dominate the races because they have all the resources.
Shooting is gonna come down to who can afford it and who can't not about your ability its gonna be about how deep your pockets are.

You say people are hording primers. Do you know one person that has that many primers that their primers would make a difference if he let them go for free? Give me a break. I have roughly 150K primers left Do you think that minute amount of primers is impacting the supply of primers out there? I don't care if 50K people had what I had left, that still wouldn't be impacting the supply of primers out there. I'm not one of the idiots out there who didn't think ahead. Anybody in their right mind knew that Trump wasn't getting in the Whitehouse again. So when all this stuff was available when he was in office people should of stocked up but most didn't. Now there here singing the blues.

I guess you are oblivious to the fact that a large number of shooters are disabled or retired and don't have the option to just work harder to pay for our hobbies like we used to. People that thought they had retirement figured out based on average inflation and now all time record inflation is leaving a large group of people behind.

Ohhh quit it Bill your just whining!!
You hit the nail right on the Head Bill, you post is exactly my point its the retired and younger shooters who this is impacting the most. Nobody gives a shit about the future anymore I guess.

You have too face facts. Benchrest shooting is largely played by old retired FKS like me. This isn't a young mans sport. I don't know many 20 and 30 year olds playing this sport on a regular basis. They have the house with the white picket fence that is financed thru the roof. They have the wife and kiddies, her with her Land Rover and him with his 95K pickemup truck. Guys like that don't have time to travel up and down the road playing an old man's game nor do most of them want too. I've seen teens start playing this sport because their grandfather wanted them to try it but once they get their first taste of gash, it's all over. The other old FK's that I shoot against are retired or close to it. The ones that are can afford any of this stuff. I don't shoot against any disabled people other than me being touched in the head, I guess you can count that as being disabled. Yes I know there are those who just dig guns that are retired with not so great a pension. I mean what are you gonna do. That's just life. I wanted to be a rockstar with a crank like John Holmes but that didn't happen. If you want to play then pay or take up needlepoint with Rosie Grier.

I have several years buffer in primers, myself. Powder is a little less stash because it’s not my prerogative to keep a dozen jugs of powder on hand. Not buying primers at $80/k is a personal choice and as prices generally fall and shelves slowly get fuller, I encouraged to continue watching and waiting.

The amount of centerfire shooting I do varies since I don’t have a regular competition venue. I also shoot airgun and rimfire and when centerfire gets hard to enjoy I migrate toward those.

That’s just me. YMMV.

What I want to know is when times were good and primers and other components were readily available at definitely better prices, you poor little left out butt hurt shooters didn't buy, Why? I buy what I want when I want. You see, if I'm using them , which I do, I replace them as needed.
Last year.
5000 CCI 450's $399.00 delivered.
5000 Ginex srp delivered $349.00
2000 Winchester srp delivered $200.00
I filled my '01 Silverado up yesterday $79.00
I don't give a RIP if I'm adding to the problem of the price of primers, components or not.
You see at 63 I do what I want, and I don't need anyone hassling me over anything that I do. It's my business and not yours. Oh, and sometimes I laugh at some of these post until it starts to turn personal.

I guess my point was just retiring myself and many others felt they had the savings/retirement figured out and now with all this we are not able to shoot or do nearly what we had planned because of this unexpected inflation. Had the pandemic never happened the world would not be dealing with this and we would all be cruising along as planned. Those that are able to go back to work may have to now to support the hobby.

I passed a diesel pump the other day leaving a filling station. 19 odd gallons of diesel was about $109. Assuming he gets 16 mpg in the cold weather, that's 304 miles of range. That works out to .36 a mile :(

My gas pickup gets average of 16 mpg this time of year, so 304 miles on 19 gallons - .20 a mile, and I don't have to buy def and deal with the myriad of sensors built into diesel engines today. Talk about killing a most beautiful invention!

I've said this before! I've always bought when I found a bargain and not necessarily for a need at the time. Yes, I have Fed match srp that I bought at $110 per 5000. When I saw the price I bought it. Same with bullets, brass, and powder. $90-$100 per thousand may be a bargain in a couple years, buy it now. Yes I have also paid too much for some things, but I do have what I need. You can call it whatever you wish but it is my money and I don't have to ask on a forum for permission to spend it.

Ive heard guys say thats the way theyll get gun control. Just make ammo and reloading stuff so high the average guy cant afford it. Sure, I paid too much for stuff but I thought that might be all she wrote. Doug
