All you guys that are complaining about ELD-M bullets not performing the way you want, can't blame Hornady. If you choose to hot rod them and they fall apart that's your choice. Hornady is not going to spoon feed you how fast you can push them. That's your responsibility to find out, then do what is necessary to keep them from falling apart or move on to a different bullet. Some rifles can shoot them faster than yours, so what. There are many reasons why this could happen. Look to your self first before blaming Hornady.
AGAIN,.. THIS ^^^ "Bingo" !

THIS ^^^ "Bingo" ! Here IS,.. the ANSWER, to the, Bullet's,.. "failure" !
Too much Velocity, DIRTY/ Hot Barrel, possibly, too tight of, a Twist ! JRS, had this, "figured out", several Pages, back as, it's NOT,.. "Rocket Science" !
Hornady Bullets, "USUALLY", shoot very well and are, reasonably priced ! NO, they are NOT custom Target or, Berger, Bullets !
I LOVE, the 87 V-Max at, 3,100 FPS in my .243 Win Tikka and the 52 grain .22 Cal's in my, .22-250 Rem. I've killed several Deer and Antelope with their .270 , 150 grain, Interlock Bullets, in my .270 Wby. I won't let, ONE person's, "bashing", stop me from buying, reasonably priced, Hornady Bullets for MY,.. "intended purposes".

Exactly correct.
The Match designated bullets fail in most or all matches of any significance, the rest are the best thing since anything, the best consumer grade stuff out there.
Hornady is a mass marketing consumer grade company and proud of it. Let the big kids do our thing and stop trying to convince us of something we know much more about.
Carry on.

I don't seem to understand why people need to dig into each other here but OK. I believe that each line of bullets is a little different and it would have made a lot more sense to condemn specific bullets or maybe even a caliber. Being that the 6.5 in two weights had issues that would lead me to believe maybe that caliber needs further investigation. As a hole i have and use the 80 grain ELDM and am still testing. Seems ok so far but i want to spend some time comparing it to the 80 MK for my uses. There are a lot of conditions that these bullets can be put in and the expectation is huge. The same bullet i am using put in a 224 Valkyrie or a 22 Creed may fail miserably. That will not change anything for my use so being very specific in your use and experience would really add a lot of value for someone like me. Your complaints are valid and in your application i see that they are problematic, and i would not use them if i were you at all. My only statement would be that my expectations would be moderated by the cost. I never expect a product that costs half as much to be competitive with the most expensive top of the line product no matter what the product is. I do feel that the overall quality of products are decreasing in a lot of areas because the consumers are not holding the manufacturers accountable. I would be most interested in your email correspondence stating the issue and the response. Bad customer support in this industry is unacceptable and that alone would have me drop their product line from my use.

Remember the scene from fight club where he explains how recalls work?

Recall all of the product that doesn’t work 5% of the time doesn’t make economic sense

If the A-Max was such a bad design, why are you still able to buy them at quite a few places?
They are not a bad design. There bullets are accurate and inexpensive. Something I like on both accounts. I'm no competition shooter so I'm happy with Hornady bullets in many lines they offer. Many guys are. Many are not. You'll hear from both sides. That happens with anything. Doesn't mean a thing. Simply opinions. I love Berger and Sierra. Both are twice the price or more than Hornady bullets. They are not twice as accurate or deadly. Not as consistent, maybe. IMO, they work for me. I'll always pick up a new box of what caliber I'm shooting in Hornady amax or eld and give them a try. Haven't regretted it yet. If I were competing and they failed for me in a match, I'd be an idiot to continue using them. They haven't cost me a single issue nor failed to make it on target or in game and get the job done.

Well, since my last post regarding the benefits of the ELD-M for 1000 yd F Class and Bench Rest, I went and exploded 3 bullets in the midst of a match. Probably 95 deg under a roof and 2941 fps 9 twist. Ya, I be an Engineer too!

I re-characterized my barrel with the 180 ELD-M and found an equally good node at 2747 fps.

I did not change from Berger 180 Hybrids for price alone, the ELD-M shot better from the get go than the Berger. Same for the 108 ELD-M in
my 6BRX.

Now at more sane Mv, I'm still a happy camper and still make money in our F Class practice match sometimes. I do measure every bullet for B-O as I did with the Bergers. I find lots typically within 0.001", soI am staying with ELD-M.

They keep selling those Hornady ELD M bullets at my LGS and other outlets and I struggle to get good deals. My favorite is the .224 75 ELDM which I shoot @ 3150 from a 1-7.7 twist .22-.250 (apparently its happy node) with no bad issues. I am only a casual shooter but I am able to hit tiny targets at moderate ranges of up to 1/4 mile. I never get upset about any type of non-specific performance issues unless fraud is involved; if I bought 1,000 of these beauties and they either blew up or flew crooked I might be upset. My simple thoughts are that bullets that have long ogives in respect to diameter are more prone to blowing up because of expansion fractures along the extended ogive portion of the bullet, combined with high velocities, quick twists and precession upon exiting the muzzle.

The 75 grain .224 ELDM and Amax swat down small rodents very well, way out there but lack the splat factor of the .243 87 grain VMax especially out of a 6mm AI.

die thread die, go back to the trash bin.

Or, I think, one of the better ones I’ve seen. Really balanced opinions. As much credit was given to Hornady for accuracy, as there is information about problems that can crop up in matches with hot barrels, and particularly slightly tighter bores.

I'll keep using them. For what I use them for, there perfect. If a bullet blows up on its way to a pasture hog, oh well. I miss. If one don't make it to steel at 1200 yards when I'm playing...Darn ! Won't be losing an important match or dropping points in one. If I did compete, I probably wouldn't consider using them just from all I've read. For my use today, they fit in fine.
