Hornady A-Max

To me they work just like a NBT.This is why I use them for hunting too.Just one has a softer jacket ( the A-max ) the other a harder jacket ( NBT )Roll with what your heart tells ya then you'll be OK

Just filled my deer tag on Friday. The load was a 162 A-Max out of a 7mm remington mag. The distance was 268 yds. Slightly quartering away. Bullet hit a rib on entrance, exploded the lungs and embedded parts and pieces of bullet on the off-side shoulder. If you want a bullet that will definitely stay together, this is not your bullet. If you want a bullet that will cause huge shock and trauma, this is your bullet.

Tony.

Shot several big whitetails with the 208gr Amax from a 308 with decent performance. They were close shots and quarter size exits through the ribs. Shoulder socket shot made a fist size entrance and had to get another shot in the animal. 162's out of a 7-08 had similar results. I stopped using them because if you hit even a tiny twig they seem to blow apart. The area I hunt tends to be really brushy.

I killed 427 groundhogs in Ohio last summer with the 6mm 105 AMax. Some of the kills were quite spectacular - as in lifting the groundhog a couple feet into the air. And two were over 1000 yards. I'm sold on the AMax.

Both my family and myself have shot quite a few deer with the 105 A-max at 3,250 fps from 20 yards to 300. All same story bang flop no exit wound bullet under hide. Only problem I have found and most likely why some dont recommend it is on all the bullets weight retention is only about 20-30%.

anyone try the 30 cal 155gr on dear? thinking about trying them out in my .308

A friend of mine killed a deer with that bullet last year out of his SPS Tactical. IT was a very messy kill, but it did kill it right in its tracks. It fragmented and ended up making a very large wound that did ruin some meat.

Thanks,

I've been using Berger hunting VLD, and was looking at the A-Max because the Bergers are starting to bite me in the wallet
