Don't outspend them, but out work em!

Not to derail the thread but I can tell you this. Every-time I sat down to shoot a score target at the Tack Driver, I was uncomfortable as Hell and shaking like a crack-baby.

Heck, that's when I shoot my best! I love it but if I don't get up with my hands shaking, I know I wasn't into it enough. True story and I've said those words to a bunch of people. It's a great feeling, being scared to death every time you pull the trigger, and they're all dots. It really is that.

Ok here is a serious question, in this deteriorating thread. So whether turning a tuner or varying their load, what percentage of those who have given up on their wonderfully crafted tune/load actually know their changed untested load or tuner position will work vs those hoping it might work. Be careful, there will be a follow up question. Let's hear it you last half dozed posters, don't be shy.

I test it on the sighter. “Sometimes is Good sometimes is Sheet!”

SR Score competitor. Everything is important. And while the components may be similar, what you don't see is the effort and time many put into making sure the actions are really working at their best..ignition, opening effort, trigger timing, etc. The heart of a killer good rifle is the bedding. It's amazing how many good BR guns have very poor bedding jobs.

Don't be a 'bubble packer'...dig in and get after stuff. -Al

Most experienced shooters don’t guess. if they make a tuner adjustmen or a load adjustment they test it on the sighter
I go to the line every target with the load I’ve been shooting and one on either side of it. If I have time after I have finished the score card or group and I think that tune is going away. I test those loads I have with me for the next target. I thought that’s what everyone did

Thanks for the replies. Being a scoreshooter for the most part I seldom chased loads even when I shot some IBS group shoots years ago. I pretty much developed a load for a barrel and if I think it's going away I go to the tuner before the next match to check where I am. Has kept me on top of things pretty easily. I sometimes read posts on changing loads during a match and wonder how much is intelligent choice vs this isn't good maybe I will luck into something else. I might get a bit more adventuresome with adjusting the tuner during during a match but I would hate for that to become a crutch for during a poor job reading the flags, bench manners, and time management. I did shoot tuners for 4 or 5 years before seeing anyone else using them thanks to good guidance from Bob Green.

I equate moving a tuner to changing the load. I don't move it unless I would get up and change loads. They take some discipline in that regard but you can check tune on your sighter in short range br. So yes, I often check a mark either way but often wind up right where I was. The key here is knowing the value of a mark on the actual tune. You can't let yourself blame the tune for lack of condition reading.

When starting this game you can be stubborn like me and think you can do it with what you have. You usually can't so you have to outspend everyone else just to catch up, then you need to learn how to do it and or use it.
This is why young guys are not getting into the game. It is an easy 8-10k just to play on an equal level.
Reason why IBS needs to recognize a FACTORY class. Then anyone can afford to play and build from there.
