Did I just find a great Carbon Cleaner?

Brass brush and hoppes 9 and kroil patches along with JB . Works great also .
All it takes is elbow grease and patients
A smooth surface is better . Larry

Larry, smooth surface by not letting the bore be 110% spit shined? I know first hand in RF that "totally clean" including a bronze brush is not good unless you are willing to recondition the barrel with lots of rounds....1/2 box?
Ben

Acetone is a fairly polar solvent, not the best for carbon. It may well remove some of it, but if you follow the acetone with a less polar solvent such as mineral spirits, you'll likely see a bunch more come out. Many of the commercial offerings, as well as "homemade" recipes will use a mixture of miscible solvents that cover a wide range of polarities and therefore dissolve/remove a wider range of contaminants.

I think it has been discontinued. I have 4 cans of it! I used to mix it with Kroil.

Yeah, It has been discontinued several years ago. I found 36 cans from some of my various GM suppliers. I only have 1 case of 12 left. Mercury Quick Silver spray carbon cleaner was or is great. Don't know if it is still available.

Larry, I don't understand your post. BenPerfected is right when shooting rimfire with the lead bullets.

Never tried it, but it has been around since dinosaurs cleaned their teeth with it. It has no effect on copper.
