Deer gun a 223?

Is a 223 enough for deer out to 200 yd with 69smk's

No they are not but they raise mortal hell in coyotes as does most match bullets. Never tried on deer

Bullet choice aside … I’m of the mind shot placement is more important than caliber to a point, if confidence in a rifle for some one means shooting a lower recoiling rifle that doesn’t scare them then go for it as long as they can have proper shot placement . With that being said I’m not going after a moose with a 22-250 just because I’m very good with it….

223 works great with 65gr Sierra game king. Or even 63gr Sierra smp

200 yards and in I would looks at 60gr Partition, 55gr-62gr gold dot, 62ge federal fusion. Don't expect a huge blood trail. Depending how fast you can push them maybe one for the Barnes TTSX or TSX offerings.

Sierra 65 gr. SBT #1395 Shot my biggest deer ever with it. It blew my mind the way the deer collapsed.

I have not shot a deer with a 223 but if I did the 77 tmk would be my choice. It looks to be devastating from what I read.

One of the best 224 bullets for deer is the Nosler 60 grain Partition. Place it in the heart/lung area and no deer will travel very far.

Some of the copper bullets by Barnes would also be good one's.

When my kids started hunting, I had them use a .223 loaded with 60 grain Partitions.
All I can say is, that bullet really delivers.
We've now killed about 8 deer, a black bear, and an elk(domesticated) with it.
No complaints at all, just don't expect an exit wound.
