I agree, sorta. I've tried 2 or 3 flavors of SK rimfire (and the "old" Wolf, which was SK under a different name) and found that they all shoot pretty well if you don't count frequent and inevitable flyers. Even a single flyer will kill you in a match, as I'm sure you well know. OTOH, some of my BR rifles prefer Center-X, while a couple of others only like Eley Match and Tenex. I've had mixed results with RWS R-50, but that was probably 'cuz I didn't do lot sorting. At over $200 a brick I'm not likely to, either, since I only shoot at the club level.Take some advice from a professional benchrest ammo chaser. STOP, do not pass GO, do not collect your $200, DO get as much of that ELEY as you can find.
That is some awesome shooting. I shot a 2325 and a 2400 yesterday and felt pretty good until I saw that my buddy next to me shot a 2400 and a 2500. There’s always someone better.Well shot the 22 match today. Looks like i am getting it dialed in. Shooting better each time. Nothing like a 2475 average on ARA targets in hot windy conditions temp was 93View attachment 1273051
Thats some good shooting. I have been averaging in the mid to high 2200 range last few shoots. I think i am getting the setup down better and better each time. Shot a couple 2500 and a couple 2450. I think i was doing everything right... guess i will know next month when i shoot again. That is some awesome shooting. Not sure if its the best. But i am pretty happy with how mine is shooting at club level matchesSo the 457 MTR is the best bang for the buck in a 22 rimfire match rifle? They seem to shoot just fine!
Seems ok to me but everyone is differentMy scheme is to get another rimfire silhouette rifle set up to suit me. Being offhand matches I was thinking maybe that stock design might not be what I need. How is shooting one offhand?
I think the stock on the 457 MTR is not well suited to offhand shooting. The stock is heavy and thick in the palm/wrist area. Other models of the 457, such as the American or Lux, may be better suited to your purposes. Just my opinion and YMMV.Been looking at the Tikka and the 457 MTR, as for my taste in rifles the 457 is much more what I like.
Are they chambered like the MTR is? Then again pretty sure I won't be able to hold an inch offhand at 100 yards.I think the stock on the 457 MTR is not well suited to offhand shooting. I have both a 457 MTR and a 457 Trainer. The Trainer outshoots the MTR handily. It’s the luck of the draw with CZ barrels. A match chamber doesn’t help a mediocre barrel, at least not in the examples I have. Are they chambered like the MTR is? Then again pretty sure I won't be able to hold an inch offhand at 100 yards.
Boy you have to hand it to the MTR for looks. I wonder if yours has some simple issue a gunsmith could fix.I have both a 457 MTR and a 457 Trainer. The Trainer outshoots the MTR handily. I like the look of the mtr. But accuracy for a factory rifle is going to come down to luck of the draw on your barrel. I had a guy at the range show up with a new mtr it shot 1.5 inch groups at 50 yards. The weird thing was that it came with a factort test target that had 21 mm group. Obviously above their accuracy guarantee so not sure why it was even shipped out. My rifle shoots 2x as good as my factory target so guess you cant judge by thatBoy you have to hand it to the MTR for looks. I wonder if yours has some simple issue a gunsmith could fix.
It shoots ok. I have 7 or 8 CZ’s and they’ll all shoot under MOA at 50 yards with good Ammo. Two of them will shoot .5 MOA or better at that distance with good lots of CX. I’m talking 6x5 averages, not single groups.Boy you have to hand it to the MTR for looks. I wonder if yours has some simple issue a gunsmith could fix.

I cant get consistent 5 round groups out of my MTR either. It will shoot 2 maybe 3 tight then the rest go wherever they please. This doesn't matter on type of ammo, I've tried them all. It consistently shoots non-consistent groups.
What is different about the chamber in your rifles. Match chamber vs 'standard' chamber. Do you physically notice anything ?
Are your first 15 shots each trip from a cold clean barrel? Are they hitting the same POA poi? Is it always shooting only the first few groups tite? Could be your barrel fouls right away and starts throwing shots where ever. What does a patch feel like going down a dirty bore? Smooth all the way or tite smooth and jerky? Could be the shooter getting tired after 15 shots or just not keeping the fundamentals. Shoot a target with 5 or 6 5 shot groups on it keeping the same point of aim on each target. And post a pic of it in this thread. Or shoot a factory ARA target and then shoot a few groups on the same target on the sighter targets. It is easier for me to shoot groups than shooting 1 shot per dot moving each time. Setup needs to be perfect each time shooting ARA target.I cant get consistent 5 round groups out of my MTR either.
