Cz 457 mtr eley match, center x, sk pistol match, sk rifle match

You guys have me horned up about shooting 22lr again. I guess time to bust it out.
I don't know if it's of interest to anyone but best groups I could get out of my Ruger RPR were using the Eley subsonic hollow. I tried a bunch of the other Eley, SK, CCI. I just got my hands on some center X but haven't shot it yet

After not shooting my 22lr Savage MK II FV in five years, I am starting back up. What got me back into it was shooting a friends CZ 457 MTR in a MDT Chassis over the 4th of July weekend. I forgot how fun it is to shoot the 22LR.

I went an ordered a CZ457 Varmint MTR and just got it last week. Went out and shot some 22lr ammo I had and was surprised of how well I shot. It now has just over 350 rounds through it.

Decided to order some really good ammo and all came in last night. Lapua Center X, SK Long Range Match, RWS Rifle Match and Eley Tenex. I will hopefully be trying them out this weekend (if it ever stops raining).

Looking forward into getting back into this great cartridge.

Dang! That's too bad about how your box of SK Match was treated. That driver is going to be in dire straits if he ever has a box of dynamite to deliver.

This note is for "sweaterdood". I remember someone writing about the slight need for extra effort to turn down the bolt handle on these CZ 457 MTR rifles. Here's why:

The chambering process on these rifles forces the bullets front land on the bearing surface into the rifling slightly, if you'll notice these:

Well took out the MTR this morning shooting sk rifle match. Clean cold bore shot was in the group again i think the barrel is settled in now. Shot 50 yards and 150 yards. Shot 4 ARA targets at 50 yards rifle and shooter are starting to shoot really good .20210721_103410.jpg20210721_085933.jpg20210721_085943.jpg20210721_070316_resized.jpg20210721_085928.jpg20210721_074946.jpg

Question on the factory class ARA target youve been shooting...
Is there a 'best' way to go through the target to be efficient.
Do you shoot horizontal first to keep elevation the same, shoot or vertical first to keep windage the same ?

When i am actually shooting one shot per target. I have tried both ways vertical rows or horizontal rows. I think its all the same. For me i think setup is crucial for each shot. I have improved each time out. And each match i have shot. I hold my rifle hard firm grip and into shoulder seems to be my sweet spot.

Eley match black box 2021 production. It shot very well just cleaned the bolt off every 5 rounds. 30 rounds fired no cleaning i had to palm the bolt closed.

well, I can confirm the grease/wax from Eley Match. I shot a box today and by the end of the box the bolt was getting difficult to close. It caked up on the bottom. I dont think I'll be using Eley Match anymore.

Looks like your lot was a little less messy than mine. Hard to tell in the pic but my magazines were needing some serious cleaning also. Sk and lapua, cci std is where its at for me on ammo now.

I use my single shot mag and feed each round by hand. I cant believe how gooped up this got. It hasnt happened with any other ammo....so far. It must be due to the tight tolerances on the MTR.

nice shooting. I cant get my MTR to group that tight. Maybe I got a lemon.
Curious if you all made any tweeks to the rifles and what headspace are you measuring ?
I 'think' the headspace on mine is .045 I cant get what I think is an accurate reading without a correct gauge. Thanks in advance.

Mine is sitting at roughly .0435 .044 ish. I have my trigger set at 2 pounds. I pulled barrel on mine wiped off the mating surfaces and torqued the grub screws equally. Cant say that helped accuracy did that before i fired it since my range was closed for a month when i picked it up.

Thanks for that info. I did the same to mine. Took apart and cleaned all the factory packed grease out of it and out of the bolt. Cleaning the factory grease did improve accuracy but nothing like you guys are showing. I'm shooting ammo that has already been mentioned.

sorry to go off topic. I'm now in rifle tweaking and testing mode.
I did notice that the action screws were too long. The rear screw was hitting the bolt and the front screw, was hitting the barrel. not good.

Forgot to post up my damaged sk rifle match 3 shot group. I straightened them out with pliers and chambered them by hand. Everyone talks about fliers and damaged drive bands so i figured this would be a good check for myself. Now i am no benchrest champion shooter but these sure shot better than what the internet would make you believe. And yes its a small sample size my zero was only off on windage. Heck i might just put some plier marks and gouges on 10 perfect ones and shoot a 10 shot group. These were shot at 50 yards off a bipod.20210810_115457.jpg20210810_115705.jpgScreenshot_20210810-120025_Gallery.jpg
