Couple of questions about NRA XTC

Couple of questions for you pros out there - I'm ready to begin XTC matches under NRA rules but can't find answers in the rule book. (1) Does a "leather" sling have to be made from leather? Is a Turner Saddlery synthetic sling OK? (2) Are AR15 brass deflectors legal under NRA rules? Many thanks in advance.

Frank

From my experience, the "Biothane" sling from Turner is legal for service rifle class. It is what I am currently using and have nothing bad to say about it. I just made sharpshooter last year after a 3 year layoff, so take that for what you will.
The brass deflector is also legal.
This should be the link to the rules that you are looking for.

I use a canvas sling. It makes no difference as far as rules go. I like them. When new I soak them hang a 25# bag of shot from them and let it dry. Never shrinks and chinchs up real tight.

Trim you ejector spring to .800" and the brass will lay at your side.

are you shooting a service rifle or a match rifle? If you are shooting a service rifle, M1, M1A, or AR15, then you have to use a GI issue web or 1903 pattern sling (leather or biothane). If you shoot MR, then you can use a GI sling or a match rifle sling.

All of the Turner synthetic slings that I have seen are really hard to adjust. I use the leather sling. Stay away from the generic leather slings though, they are not as strong.
