Combined Connecticut and Gun Issues Thread

The real question is why Americans get all weepy over white kids from Connecticut getting killed but couldn't give a crap that we are sending our children to die and maimed and mentally scarred every day in the middle east for very dubious reasons...

Not to mention we kill children in mass with our military every month... No one cares...

We as a nation have become such unbelievable brain dead moral hypocrites....

I don't know of any gun shops, gunshows or gun manufacturers that promote shooting at other human beings with their products. However, nobody seems concerned with airsoft, paintball and shooting video games which exist for the soul purpose of seeing how many humans you can hit, kill, eliminate or whatever!!!!

Also, while my heart aches for the loss of all those children, their teachers and their parents I have never seen the likes of CNN etc 'camp' ANYWHERE to cover the return of America's finest from Iraq or Astan!!!!!! Seems covering the death of our Soldiers whom by the way are 'our children' also or the return of the living whom offered to fight and or die for our country have little 'worthiness' in the eyes of the left and media!!!

Just been so d*mn mad and depressed the last 4 days I am beside myself. Deal with depression daily because of my health and being alone for 9yrs now and then to have my last and only passion categorize me as the same mindset etc as the shooter by 1/2 or more of the country now!! Can't hardly watch TV!

I wholeheartedly agree with you Jon. I just don't believe for a minute that high capacity magazines have one darn thing to do with what is happening to our society. I have a couple high capacity mags and do not own a gun to use them in. When I did, I never used them. Just the same, I will defend my right to own them. I also want to know why the police do not get to the bottom of this terrible threat in my Granddaughter's high school. you will never make me believe that a Nation numb to the act of murdering the unborn does not play some role in all of this. As for martial arts, violent video games, etc., I don't spend one thin dime on them. I can't understand why anyone one would. Maybe it all boils down to the fact that we were taught right from wrong growing up. Way too many kids today have no clue about right and wrong, let alone the consequences of wrongful actions. I have to get going. I sure hope this debate becomes about more than gun control in congress and in the left wing controlled media. I agree with Obama, it has to stop. I'm afraid he and I do not agree on how to stop it.

One or two posters here need to CHANGE whiskey!! Whatever you're drinkin is messing up your mind!! NOONE... that owns firearms that I know....and certainly no firearms dealers/outdoor stores are promoting the killing of innocent people! Generally firearms that are sold/used......are for competition purposes, hunting, or for self defense so the generalization that just because these items are available for sale DOES NOT MEAN that they are to be used illegally or that an inanimate object has some voodoo power to entice a 'wack job' to go out and shoot up the general public! What's next.....hammers, chainsaws, kitchen knives, screw-drivers, trucks, or cue balls in a sock????????

You cannot compare war

Didn't know we were at war in Pakistan... Yet we kill their children...
Neither did I. I did not reference Pakistan. Neither did you. Your reference was the middle east.

Well, technically we are not at war with anyone... Haven't been at war for more than 65 years... Does not stop the USA from killing children by executive fiat...

Actually, I DO COMPARE THEM... I am awake... Selective myopia of murder is no longer something I do... Sadly, I am very alone in this conviction...

In this thread I have read multiple comments blaming the murderer's mother for not locking up her firearms, and that we need better mental health in this country.

In response to blaming the mother, for all we know, she had her firearms locked and her murderer son forced her to open her safe. It is pure speculation either way. We need more info before blaming the mother. I do find it odd that a single woman would own a Sig, Glock and a Bushmaster AR.

I am 54 years old and grew up in Arizona. When I was a kid, every family I knew had firearms and no one had a safe. Many of us kids had our guns on a gun rack on our bedroom walls, and many families displayed their firearms in wood and glass enclased gun cabinets. If the availability of firearms was the cause, there would have had more shootings when i was a kid, but school shootings did not start until after I graduated from high school. The first school shooting occured in 1979 in San Diego. Times are different now, and I am expected to lock my firearms in a safe, which I do.

The call for more mental health care is just another attempt to deflect blame. It does appear that our society is becoming more violent and callous. Why is it that school children were not targets of mentally defective people prior to 1979? Mental health issues existed prior to the first school shooting.

I believe the school shootings are the result of our decaying morals and the people of this country turning their backs on God. When I was a kid, I knew one kid whose parents were divorced. I never heard of abortion. Homosexuality was a disgrace. I was punished for my bad behavior. Social standards were enforced rejecting those who did not comply. I could go on but my point is made.

The answer is not to ban or limit firearms. Heroin and Meth are illegal but they exist in our society.

Ok guys ( we didn't do anything ) or goverment has made the choices for us.It is ( we the people who have to obey the oreders ) of such comands.

Lets stay on track here.Again our schools have had uniforms at the doors of our schools today. Is this a begining I hope so.Will it last who knows,I hope so.I would even like to see it go father than it is.Maybe add some people to help out at each scool in our county/state.Even invite CWP carries ( the good ones ) in play.I know it would take a good go through to get the best out of each case ( person willing to help ) but crying and not wanting to do something will just say here come here we don't care.

Again we can all point out to what we think happened on this very sad day, along with the other sad days from the past.Till we the people come together and start doing something it is what it is.We are all great ( barkers ) but we have yet learned to ( bite ) WE all stand and bark then let what ever takes place take place. Its our time to shine and ( Bite ) not bark.Great site like this one is a great starting place. If I may say so.

Slaves don't need morals. That is left for the Master. Slaves need to do what they are told...

I may be a bit of an oddity here, but yes, I do have, and use high caps quite extensively. My primary venue for competition is XC High Power, shooting primarily Service Rifle for the past 30+ years. I think I've missed just one of the Nationals at Camp Perry in the past 20 years. We use twenty round mags for most of the XC activities, but we do use the 30 round mags for Infantry Trophy. My carry gun is almost always a Glock, and it may bounce back and forth between a M23 (13 rd mags) and a M17 (17 rd mags). Since the Glocks also seem to be in the crosshairs, as well as the ARs I use in competition, I take this kinda personally.

The problem here is the old question, "how do you eat an elephant?" The answer is, one bite at a time. The anti gunners have been trying this for as long as I can remember, and have been eating our freedoms one bite at a time. The last few years have been prety lean for them, what with the Heller and McDonald decisions being handed down, and they want a big victory to make up for lost ground. They have something now, with an administration that will fully support them right down the line. I look for them to make a major reach very soon. Feinstein and others are already making noise about this, and I don't think it's idle chat.

Not making any recommendations for anyone else, but I think it's time for some soul searching and decision making.

We'll agree to disagree. The old "if it only saves one life" argument doesn't wash, and will ultimately lead to many other deaths of innocents down the road. You may or may not be aware of this, but in a prior life I was a police officer in Southern California, LA County to be exact. I took a good many guns off the street during my time there, and in all those instances I can recall exactly ONE time when I took a gun off someone who had a legal right to posses a weapon. Underage gang bangers, convicted felons, drug abusers, whatever. The average citizen simply isn't the problem. I welcomed their being armed, knew they were never a threat to me, and that I could probably count on their support if I really found myself in a jam. No, the problem is the people. Evil, deranged or just plain sociopathic trolls. Control them, and the rest of the problem will take care of itself.

It some what relates back to how we treat the bad guys when caught.Today we let them have three nice meals and TV to watch.Even let them study law and offer school to them.Plus many more things.I'd be willing to bet that if we made them do the road work needed around America along with many other jobs they could do,the ones thinking of doing something wrong would rethink it.Heck I would just make them move a hudge pile of dirt from one side of the compound to another just for fun.Just ask Gomerpile he would be able to say to how hard that is.

Me I say an eye for an eye,so if you kill then you die.Or if you rape then you should loose something close to you or be rapped yourself.( by letting a line of inmates have their way with ya one at a time )

this too will help out with or tax payers money, but hey this is just my opinion and how I feel.

now you are taking jobs away from honest people, why bother paying someone to do something when you can just go to the nearest prison and get free slave labor

a person that is willing to risk life in prison for 50$ from a gas station robbery isn't likely to weight the pros and cons of his actions. contrary to popular believe, most petty criminals are not rational at the best of time.

give rap a chance, it might not be as refined as rock'n'roll but an articulated artists can produce some interesting and even thought provoking lyrics.

I abhor this tragedy. I have grandkids too. But I think there is one area of this discussion that has been greatly overlooked. No one has asked the most important question, Why did he do it? Why did he flip out?

In almost every case where someone has gone crazy and started shooting there has been involvement with drugs perscribed by Doctors. Ritalin, Prozac and others all cause extreme anger and suicide tendencies if stopped suddenly. Columbine, Texas and the Gifford shooting all had medicinal drug involvement. This is an area that needs scrutiny.

It has been stated that because there is so much money involved in these drugs and that many Psychiatrists are nothing but "Pill Pushers" that they do not warn patients and family how dangerous the drugs are if not used properly. We truly need to investigate the cause of the crime and not blame the instrument that was used. Only when we can determine the "Why" can we prevent recurrence.

I myself believe the main problem with children today doesn't lie in video games, movies, or any other form of tv promoting violence. It lies at home, to many children today are raised by their tv and not by their parents. Sure it's easy to put a video game in or turn a movie on to be a babysitter, that's exactly where they learn their values. I let all my children play war games and such but I also have from a young age let them know the diffirence from reality and video games. I've always taught them to be respectfull to others and to love one another. I've taught them life is a precious thing and they know what a loving family is. I guarantee the majority of the mass shootings where by children who weren't taught any of these things. They probably were ignored by everyone in their family and just got money throwed at them when all they wanted was someone to talk to them and love them.

I truly feel sorry for children that have grown up in a family that was just to busy to be a parent to their children. I also believe that to many parents try to be a best friend instead of a mother or father. A parents job first and foremost is to be a parent not a friend, if you can be a friend along the way great but kids need structure and responsibility to grow into a responsible adult not a buddy for a parent. I love my children more than anything and they know it, they also know that I expect well behaved and respectful young children.

Sorry if I got off base a little but that's my view.

She told me that she was not going to school this coming Friday and proceeded to tell me her reason. There is a rumor circulating that a student at her school intends to carry out a mass shooting there. No one has come forward with evidence as to the identity of the psycho.

With all the "End of the World" hype the past few months & years the thought occurred to me this afternoon maybe this gave the psycho last Friday a reason to steal his mother's property? So he could 'save' a bunch of kids the suffering about to face us all?

Maybe his mom died trying to prevent this from happening?

Reports have it that she'd taken him shooting to instill some sense of responsible behavior in him & that he'd taken pride in being able to act in a responsible manner when handling the hardware.

That he'd stopped taking medication recently too though just what was left out.

Likely we'll never know what led up to this tragedy but we'll surely be aware as the rhetoric & demagoguery continues, eventually affecting each & every one of us.

Tell me something Kevin: Having worked for a Sheriffs dept myself, LA County Sheriff's Office, I agree with your statement in part. The average civilian is clearly is not the problem. However, when we allow certain guns/high cap mags so readily available to the "general public", we increase the chance for mass murder. The old "if it saves one life" certainly means a great deal to me. My daughter was gunned down on her high school graduation night in a drive by. Maricopa Co. Sherriff's office recovered 63 empty 7.62x39 cases. My daughter was hit with 2 rounds. One in the chest, one in the head. I have for a number of years clenched my fists and bit my tongue. Looking at the photos of those 20 innocent young children has struck a nerve, and reopened a huge wound. Something, somehow has to change. There has to be a compromise. We have a right to keep and bear arms for sure. Our founding fathers of the Constitution clearly did not allow provisions for everything we believe are protected by the 2nd Amendment. Times have changed. Our society has changed. Could it be your opinion might not be as strong if you worked for an industry outside the gun industry (LAPUA)?
I am terribly sorry for your loss. Words are inadequate .

But wait....wait!! I'd like to ask this question:

What about the near 50 MILLION innocents we've aborted??? For a nation and a world so upset about this shooting tragedy of little innocents.....aren't these 50 MILLION kids that were slaughtered a tragedy and innocents also?? Or are they just something that can be put out of mind because we never saw them....as the cute little boys and girls that could have been were not a pair of surgical scissors driven into the base of some their skulls as done in partial birth abortions???

We're a nation of FRIGGIN NUTS.....no question about it! Millions of $$$$ are taken up for the care of dogs and cats and in a helluva lot of instances we take better care of four legged animals than we do our children!! I'm never amazed at the degree of stupidity that exists in this country!! :-[ :-\ ::)

YES

R.Mulhern. Well said. I agree with you 100%. We as law abiding citisens should have the right to buy and use AR's, H&k's, or high cap mags. Where not the ones commiting the crimes and murders. Just because I
prefer single shot bolt guns don't mean you can't use an ar. We as gun lovers are taken a beating because of some psycho's.
I personally don't promote the use of air soft or paint ball guns. I believe we should'nt teach kids to use any sort of gun to shoot some one else.
