Best Powder for 45acp 230 grain hollow point

I have accurate #5 ,titegroup and unique want the best powder for a self defense load 230 grain hollow point recommendations please
Titegroup. Meters well, low "ejecta" (unburned crap out the front), inexpensive. After all, you'll be practising with it.

I will however echo other's remarks about self-defence with handloads. Factory is safer.

If you have to draw your gun, in a self-defense situation, then to be justified you have to fire it. As a concealed carry holder, your first obligation is to diffuse and retreat, otherwise you are brandishing a firearm. If the threat to you is such, that you fear great bodily harm, e.g. broken bone, then you have a right to fire. In a situation like that, I wouldn't care what ammunition was in my gun.
Precisely!
let's run a scenario....
lets say ....I used a muzzle loader at the time, to defend my life
I doubt any DA is going to attack what charge weight I used
I would be loading my own there.
Not weighing or metering the charge
---------------------------------------------------
What bullet or caliber or muzzle velocity used to defend ones life is irrelevent
Especially, in ones own home.
----------------------------------------
I own no factory ammo, so that would be my defense

JWV2001 I too wish that here was some in between that would allow me to change my mind, without being guilty of brandishing my gun. I sure don't want someone sticking a gun in my face every time I go to the hardware store. But using a firearm to deescalate the situation would seem better than knowing if I pull it I need to shoot it. Some of you smart guys should figure this out!

I have seen and read and heard, EXPERTS! Guys in the job, etc etc say
If you even SEE a gun, Shoot them.
No warning, no hey stop right there, no put your hands up
All that is giving the perp, time to shoot you
And it takes a human 0.2 seconds to process a visual stimulus and then react to it
meaning, if you give the other guy even a split second to react to your warning
You are likely dead. Or at the very least shot at and trying to take cover.
------------
If I can find it I recenty read an account of a cop who worked somehwere harsh such as Harlem and said that many of the guys he had to engage, once they were hard core criminals and already have used a gun to commit robberie's and car thefts
Means they do not hesitate to shoot first anymore to get out of being arrested.
------------
Also, within that advice, when you call the police to report it
You say "SOMEBODY....has been shot, send an ambulance"
Not _I had to shoot someone
-------------
If you say , "I have shot someone", they will roll up on you and focus on you, and the perp will escape because they only know you are the one with a gun.
If you say SOMEONE, has been shot, they approach it differently and suspect the homeowner is not the one to focus on, but the perp instead. And if you seen he has a gun, they will catch the other guy finding he definitely did have a gun and you will have more chance looking like you were in the right.
------------------
This is all a slippery slope for ones own judgement to use.

If you see a gun it's a no brainer! It's that bodily harm thing from someone who has had more crap happen to them in the last few hours than he/she can deal with. Some of these encounters would be better served with a drawn gun confrontation and both parties backing off and starting tomorrow fresh after a good nights rest.

My favorite accuracy load:

Zero Bullets 200gr. SWC, @ 1.240" (crimped to .469")
HP-38 @ 5.3 gr.
WCC, UMC, or Federal cases
WLP primer

The Garmin Xero shows these travelling 850 fps. They shoot 2-3" groups @ 50 yards from a Random Rest.
They shoot way, way better at 25 yards offhand, with a small to moderate amount of recoil in a Government length 1911-A1.

ETA: I load these on a progressive press - they might shoot better if I weighed each charge, but I need to load in volume for this. HP-38 is alleged to be the same as W-231. I like how it shoots, and it's not too dirty either.

WIN 231 Friend Billy gave me his grandfathers stash after he past, more than a lifetime supply for me even after a gave half of it away. But that is what i would have chosen anyway. It flows well from the charge master or a thrower and is clean enough to live with.

Thank you everyone for all the info, gonna make 10 bullets from each powder chronograph them see how they feel, I will buy some defense loads for my house, I'll put up the fps and accuracy THANKS JOHN
Looking forward to seeing your results John

One reason, I would only use handloads is that when ever I go to the range where people practice, I always pick up duds. These are factory rounds. I don't have misfires with my handloads. I don't need to practice clearing my gun.
I'm really sorry I got dragged down this self-defense rabbit hole, by post #2. The OP asked about the best powder for 45 ACP with a 230 gr. bullet. Period
The only "dud" 45ACP load I have ever had out of multiple thousands fired was a factory Federal.

FYI -

Zero Bullets are swaged bullets. They shoot much more accurately in my pistol than standard cast bullets. The Zero 200 gr. Semi-Wadcutter (SWC) is supposed to be a faithful recreation of the Hensley & Gibbs No. 68 bullet. I bought some cast bullets from a major caster, and had absolutely no luck with multiple 'classic loads' for the 200 SWC.

Many folks are able to get cast bullets to shoot well enough in their guns, I unfortunately could not, and after trying out 100 in different combinations, I gave the remainder of the box away.

YMMV.

After reading some of the comments here ; I am so very thankful I live in a State that has both Castle Doctrine , and Stand your Ground Laws . And very sad for those who live in anti-Gun Communist Blue States that don't allow citizens to defend themselves in their own homes . All that being said ; I will tell everyone , and anyone who asks . Every round , in every magazine , for ever one of my guns is a "HANDLOAD" ! They are the exact , identical load carried by the Arizona DPS , and if some shyster Lawyer , or DA want to try to make their "Rep" prosecuting me , then , "Have at it" ! If that round is acceptable to our State Law Enforcement , then it is Legal and acceptable for anyone else to use also !
My only suggestion to anyone attempting to Burglarize my home , or bring harm to my wife is ; "Bring your own Body Bag"! You aren't leaving up-right ! My RIGHT to
self defense isn't lessened by some Liberal Lawyer , and his anti-gun views !

What would be the liability?
if involved in a shooting, it is understood
EVERY single person will of course have to go to court and answer for it
There is no corcumstance where the cops will show up and simply go
"oh yep, self -defense sir, have a nice day" and never hear from them again.
The opposing counsel may, try and make the defender look
1. Incapable
2. Not well trained enough
3. Reckless
4. Like a kill happy SOB
-----------------------------------
So one will have to answer for their defense
Regardless of all that
My contention is this:
Perhaps all DA's need to be reminded of what a gun is for in the home to begin with
....which is NOT, to brandish and scare people away with
.-------------------
Many people feel things like
Modifying your trigger to be lighter, using hopped up handloads etc etc
make a person look as though they may have been simply "Looking for a reason"
to kill.
----------
It may be wrong, to make a home defender the criminal.
And I don't see what they gain by doing so...
But it has happened.
-------------------------
Therefore many people "Feel" I say feel because I assert facts override feelings...
Many people "FEEL" using factory loads in self defense is one extra step to help acquit the
defendent
