JWV2001 I too wish that here was some in between that would allow me to change my mind, without being guilty of brandishing my gun. I sure don't want someone sticking a gun in my face every time I go to the hardware store. But using a firearm to deescalate the situation would seem better than knowing if I pull it I need to shoot it. Some of you smart guys should figure this out!
I have seen and read and heard, EXPERTS! Guys in the job, etc etc say
If you even SEE a gun, Shoot them.
No warning, no hey stop right there, no put your hands up
All that is giving the perp, time to shoot you
And it takes a human 0.2 seconds to process a visual stimulus and then react to it
meaning, if you give the other guy even a split second to react to your warning
You are likely dead. Or at the very least shot at and trying to take cover.
------------
If I can find it I recenty read an account of a cop who worked somehwere harsh such as Harlem and said that many of the guys he had to engage, once they were hard core criminals and already have used a gun to commit robberie's and car thefts
Means they do not hesitate to shoot first anymore to get out of being arrested.
------------
Also, within that advice, when you call the police to report it
You say "SOMEBODY....has been shot, send an ambulance"
Not _I had to shoot someone
-------------
If you say , "I have shot someone", they will roll up on you and focus on you, and the perp will escape because they only know you are the one with a gun.
If you say SOMEONE, has been shot, they approach it differently and suspect the homeowner is not the one to focus on, but the perp instead. And if you seen he has a gun, they will catch the other guy finding he definitely did have a gun and you will have more chance looking like you were in the right.

This is all a slippery slope for ones own judgement to use.
