Anyone like racing?

I had this in a drawer. Some of you know of harry Miller. He was the father of the Miller Indy front wheel drive cars and the Miller -Miller Drake engine. This had a complete set of jet drills and pin vise. I found later that 3 were made for 3 of his tuner guys. I gave mine to Jimmy Lee Knox, JLK Bullets. Jimmy has one of the sweetest model A street cars that I have ever seen. Of course it is Ford powered as Jimmy said he had rather push it than have a Chebby in it.

Didn't know that JP.

This is 409 powered and races with us sometimes. Put a wheelie bar on AFTER going way high and coming down too hard.View attachment 1477488
“W“ Motor Gasser!!
Dave, I’m not sure if you are old enough to remember the “Gasser Wars” of the ‘60’s, but that was a time to live. They held Match Races as well as their regular circuit. They were a big thing when they came to a local track.

Stone/ Woods/ Cook was my all time favorite, I got see them at the Houston International Raceway when I was in High School. They were still running the blown gas Oldsmobile, it was before they went to the Hemi.

Those were some great times in Drag Racing. The Gassers, by todays standards, really weren’t that quick and fast, but they sure were exciting.

Al, did you know Ohio George just checked out a couple of weeks ago?

I'm the same age as you Jackie, just look much younger:cool::cool:birthday was Friday....Here's a pic of a 65 Chevy II....straight front axle, Fuel injected alcohol, 4 speed, runs in 8s. 540ci World Products block. Not quite a gasser. He'll be here in Iowa next weekend. There's a couple other W powered gassers that run with us from time to time.

The adjacent rod journals, or throws on a flat plain V-8 crank are 180 degrees apart rather than the conventional 90 degrees.

The theory is the engine tends to rev quicker and make more top end power.

The trade off is harmonics, which can lead to high frequency vibration, which can be hazardous to the life of the engine.

here is a picture that explains the layout. Since many 4 cylinder engines encorporate flat plain cranks. You can picture a V-8 as two 4 cylinders on the same block.

One thing is for sure. They sure sound “different”.

Thankyou. Just checking.
