Yes, and 8600 rpm red line. The 2023 Corvette LT6 Mid engine corvette has a flat plane crank
engine.
Walt, it is still a work in progress.Holy crap Butch!!!!! What a toy store you found there!
That's a museum of sorts. Wow.Walt, it is still a work in progress.
“W“ Motor Gasser!!Didn't know that JP.
This is 409 powered and races with us sometimes. Put a wheelie bar on AFTER going way high and coming down too hard.View attachment 1477488
Thankyou. Just checking. The adjacent rod journals, or throws on a flat plain V-8 crank are 180 degrees apart rather than the conventional 90 degrees.
The theory is the engine tends to rev quicker and make more top end power.
The trade off is harmonics, which can lead to high frequency vibration, which can be hazardous to the life of the engine.
here is a picture that explains the layout. Since many 4 cylinder engines encorporate flat plain cranks. You can picture a V-8 as two 4 cylinders on the same block.
One thing is for sure. They sure sound “different”.
-“W“ Motor Gasser!!
Dave, I’m not sure if you are old enough to remember the “Gasser Wars” of the ‘60’s, but that was a time to live. They held Match Races as well as their regular circuit. They were a big thing when they came to a local track.
Stone/ Woods/ Cook was my all time favorite, I got see them at the Houston International Raceway when I was in High School. They were still running the blown gas Oldsmobile, it was before they went to the Hemi.
Those were some great times in Drag Racing. The Gassers, by todays standards, really weren’t that quick and fast, but they sure were exciting.
Al, some of us oldtimers knew it.Many don't realize the Stone and Woods were the first sucessful black drag racers. With driver Doug Cook, they were the first racially integrated team to be well known.
When I was 18, I got to meet Jungle Pam when she and Jungle Jim had a match race with the Chi Town Hustler at our local track.
