Anyone like racing?

I was at Norwalk, Ohio Drag strip to see the races in 69 or 70 not sure what year it was. The Snake and the Mongoose funny cars where there and they ran can't remember who won. But i do remember they broke to 200 MPH that night and the crowd went crazy throw cans and paper in the air. It was a wild night for sure. Now their over 330+ on a shorten track no less. My wife loves going to the drags and seeing the woman knocking of the men in Rails, Funny Cars, and Pro Stock.....

Let's not forget Miss Hurst Golden Shifter
Two of my fondest memories from drag racing.
Used to see her at the larger NHRA events. Met her once at a speed equipment show and later at a hot rod event in Bakersfield Ca. Nice lady and easy to talk to.

Heck, I saw her in person a couple of times when “Jungle Jim” would come to Houston International Raceway on the Match Race tour.

Truth was, she was kind of a “Butterface” in person.
i worked for Speed Equipment World back in the day and they had headquarters in Farmers Branch. They sponsored Jungle Jim for a period of time and Jackie is correct - but wait did she have a face back then!!! They would have them do sponsor things at the corporate meetings and have the car there for everyone to take pictures.

No, I’m the guy standing with the Schmidt Machine TShirt.

The guy with the beard is a John Koehnle.
I had almost forgotten you adventures boat and bike racing. Had no Idea how fast that bike was. That was serious stuff. I always thought people who did that kind of thing where just a little different ,but you have my respect and I take back everything bad I ever said about you.( :

Was John an employee or a racing buddy?

“W“ Motor Gasser!!
Dave, I’m not sure if you are old enough to remember the “Gasser Wars” of the ‘60’s, but that was a time to live. They held Match Races as well as their regular circuit. They were a big thing when they came to a local track.

Stone/ Woods/ Cook was my all time favorite, I got see them at the Houston International Raceway when I was in High School. They were still running the blown gas Oldsmobile, it was before they went to the Hemi.

Those were some great times in Drag Racing. The Gassers, by todays standards, really weren’t that quick and fast, but they sure were exciting.
After going to the Hemi I think they ran the Olds in B/GS for a spell.
When I was racing at Half Moon Bay they showed up for a match race with John Mazmanian.
