62 eld vt

I shot them at >3300fps out of a 9 twist 223AI, they didn't keyhole but groups were 4-5MOA. I know some people have gotten them to stabilize in a 9 twist at much higher speeds.
Bummer… I was just looking on Hornadys 4DoF app earlier today and they are saying that the 62 will have a sg value of 1.4 at the muzzle at 3100 fps at 4600’ elevation… i was hoping to develop a load for them in my new 223AI with a 9 twist

I was skeptical about Hornadys BC claim, but it is indeed very close. I think I will order a few more boxes and plan on them for my 22 Creed prairie dog load.
Some more testing yesterday found a 3800fps+ load(got to 3900, but popped the primer). Now to see if it groups.

About .060-.070 shorter than my 75 Eldms… wayyyy shorter than 88 Eldm s that I shoot out of 22-250 Ai … all in 8 twist at 3000’ or higher elevation

Sounds almost like they just used the original 75 gn BTHP jackets that they had out for years and just cut the weight (lead) down. They would be about that much shorter than the Eldm’s.

I recently got a new .22 Nosler (1-8") bolt gun back from the gunsmith with high hopes of the 62 ELD liking the first of two tubes I had chambered. My first session didn't go as great as hoped. Averaged around 5/8" to 3/4" MOA depending on powder. My .22 Nosler A/R does better than that with 55 Blitz Kings (though haven't tried the 62's in it yet) so hoping for better to come. Fortunately, I had also loaded up some Berger 73's I had laying around and they went in one ragged hole - so I know the gun "shoots" with something. I have loaded up a second batch of ELD's with different powders and hope things go better.

What seating depth did you use?

I don't have the numbers in front of me, but being a SAAMI chamber, they are pretty generous in the leade. I started off with the load which worked best in my A/R, using RL15, at a length which would have been mag length, then seated out in two increments of .015" each. The batch I have loaded up will place them at jam and .005" off. The RL 15 which puts them into bitty A/R groups shot like a shotgun. The Berger 73's were at the same seating depth and shot really well, though I think I got the best accuracy using Varget or 8208. If I were working this up for targets, I'd stop now with the Bergers. But this will be for a varmint load (coyotes).

I recently tried the 62eldvt's at 2.340 in an 1:8, 24" AR [hoping they would work in a 'windowed' mag]. 6" spread at 100 yards.
Took the same powder charge but seated the bullets at 20/1000 off the lands - 3/4" group.
Both times shot from prone with a sling.

The 62 eldvt is not jump tolerant. So, you are kind of comparing apples and oranges.

I have no experience with these new 62’s but if they are like any other Hornady bullet that I’ve ever shot in the past, anything farther away from jam or touch of the lands has only yielded worse accuracy. The sharp shape on the ogive likes to be close or in and that’s over a wide range of calibers and bullet weights. I save tons of time with load work up just starting at jam and working out nowadays. Hope this helps someone else. This is not true for Bergers and sierra’s from my experience where I can normally find a good node with those around the 20 thou off touch give or take.

Yes - not comparing the two bullets so much as noting one shot well in the rifle and that I haven't found the right combo with the ELD-VT as of yet. I usually find what works after a bit of experimentation. Even the 55 Blitz Kings in my A/R .22 Nosler shot tremendously different-sized groups at the same seating depth with different powders, where Rel 15 was hands down best, as it was in three other .22 Noslers I had worked up accuracy loads for buddies. I can tell this tube didn't like Rel 15 with either bullet or seating depth tried thus far, short of jam - which is coming next.

If these 62’s are in fact 75 gn match jackets with less internal lead. I’m not thrilled at all about their inception. I could not get the 75 gn match bullets to shoot in any of my three 22 caliber barrels. 7, 8 and 9 twist would just not find a decent load at all, but all three barrels EASILY shot tiny groups with Sierra 69’s with multiple load combinations. Some bullets just don’t work, period. My worst Sierra groups were better than my best Hornady groups in those instances. But Vmax’s and A maxes shot great so I could not tell you what the issue was ???
