.300 WSM WOW!

Regarding RE-16 and 215 hybrids in 300WSM at 2950 it is very accurate
However in my opinion it’s not a safe load to take to a match....started getting sticky bolt lifts on second string. 15x first string 14x second string
At weekly 600 yard match.... maybe 4831sc might be a safer way to get to that 2950 node?

Rl16 has been a no go for me in my 300WSM - shoots all over the place - changing back to 4350, shoots little bitty groups..
Hey Jim! I started using H4831sc when I first started with the 215s. However, some time during every match I got a flyer that went off into the wild blue yonder. At first I thought it was me, then I thought it must be some "condition" I did not see. But after awhile I said "nah, there is something to this". I went to RL-23 and got the same velocity with 1.3grs LESS powder and I don't get any of those flyers anymore. I have even started using the 230 Hybrids (wanted to try them) and use RL-23 with the same excellent results as with the 215s! If you want to give it a try, I believe you will really like the results it will give you..

64 grains of Rl23 with a 215 was the load I shot in my last wsm and its worked out well for quite a few that I have shared it with. I even shot the next node up with excellent accuracy but until we get better brass it wont take that load for long. I never got along with H4831sc, some barrels shoot it well. I have just never had one.

I’m not getting the ejector dimples and no sticky bolt lifts.
fired the first sighter came down a couple clicks and just ripped off as many as I could get off (I was in a 22 minutes match) maybe there is something to shooting RE-16 in a 300 WSM?

LATEST INFORMATION: This past Saturday (1-19-20) I shot a 500 yard match with my .300 WSM that has the 215 barrel on it. I have, for the past few weeks, tried and used the 230 Hybrids. It shot pretty well for a barrel that has 1400 rounds on it. So I took it to the 500 yard match Saturday and WON! However, that is a misnomer! I fought tooth and nail to keep it in the 10 ring and only had 28-Xs!! I knew it was close to the end. Today, 1-27, I loaded up some rounds to fireform some 270WSM that were necked up to .300 WSM. The groups started out "ok".. But by the time I was finished, 30 rounds later>>> they were 4-5 inches at 330 yards! The barrel is T-total toast. So for those of Y'all that have been asking>>>it got 1500 rounds before it went into the toilet. That is about all you can expect out of a magnum, especially going thru the the Arizona summers here! I am pleasantly pleased!

Now for EXPERIMENT TIME: A month ago I ordered a barrel from Bartlein specifically for the 230 Hybrids. It is a 32" 4 groove conventional style with their GAIN TWIST rifling. It is 9.75 down to 9.30. I am hoping it cuts down a bit on the torque, as those 230s do torque. However, it will have to be used at a later date. The barrel won't be here for another 3 months. Well I had a 9.5 like the one that just burned out and am having it done up now for the 230s. I can't have a rifle sitting for 3 months doing nothing. So the experiment will happen>>>>just down the road a little..

Running 210's from 2850-2875 area barrel life is longer. I don't know what your load is but that has been my experience and it shoots.

Yes Sir Ray, I don't want to run at the higher node, especially with the 230s. Right at 2785+/- a few, is where it's at with the 230s if you want better barrel life and don't want to have regular visits with the chiropractor! LOL!!! Oh and it does shoot very well there..

9FB431F5-4AAF-4200-95DF-B3FC622ED8AB.jpeg I have committed further to the 300WSM

My previous stock handled the WSM pretty well, but torque was definitely an issue, as was the potential for recoil fatigue over multi day shoots.

So I have acquired a Dima RS F-open stock and had my Barnard bedded into it with a new Krieger 10twist barrel.
In the back end of the stock I have had a Rucker’s Bump Buster installed with a kickeez dual density recoil pad.

Last weekend I put a few rounds through it to run in, but this weekend was my first hit out with the new stock.

I can say having a low profile stock with a good recoil system has made a huge difference in how I can shoot this calibre.

I haven’t shot much at all this year thanks to Covid and am a little rusty, but I though I would film my first detail with the new combo, I am shooting this near free recoil and it tracks so bloody well!!

A have fitted a new much crisper/lighter trigger to the Barnard which caught me out a few times and need to bring the scope back about 1/2” as I am trying to climb up the stock to get a clear sight picture.

But this next barrel looks like it’s going to be much like the first as far as tuning, forgiving!!

2nd detail (not filmed) I bumped the charge up to 64.8gr of RE23 with 215 Berger set to an arbitrary jump of 0.010”

After shot 5 I turned my tuner in a full graduation and got the two high left shots (poi shift) before altering the scope.

The next six grouped very tightly in the X ring. very happy for a ‘throw together load’
Total round count is now 50 on this barrel.

Wow that is one awesome looking rifle!!

How you go getting the stock shipped to Oz?
That target looks great, what distance were you shooting?

Dima stocks are imported in to Australia by Rob Valeri (pm me for his contact).
I need to now work on finishing the stock, it’s going to look great once it’s done!!

Target distance was 600yards. Last five shots of the string above were in a 34mm group.

I would say ben_g that you have a winner of a rifle and that load is none to shabby either! Hopefully the rest of the year will see you shooting at the top of your game!
