300 WSM--Need Your Data for Cartridge Guide

FYI snipers hide has a group buy going on right now for a 50 bmg McMillan action for a decent price. Only draw back is that it’s a shell holder bolt design but it would still be a nice start to an elr build

Thank you! Just spent all my dough on a suppressor, though.

You and everyone around you will like that you’ve got a suppressor. everyone that shoots my heat at our local range shoots suppressed and it’s awsome not having the muzzle blast and noise right beside you.

I have 2 rifles, one load each. One for 1000 yard F-Class and one for 600 yard F-Class..

For 1000 yard F-Class:
32" Krieger 1-9.5 / 4 groove conventional 1.250 straight tube barrel..
Reamer is .337 neck and .240 freebore
SHOOTING: 215 Berger Hybrids seated 22 thousandths OFF from just touching lands..
65.7 grs. of H4831sc lit by Win. LRM primers..
Velocity: 2910-2915 (in that vicinity)..

For 600 yard F-Class:
30" Krieger 1-11 / 4 groove conventional 1.250 straight tube barrel
Reamer is .337 neck and .185 freebore
SHOOTING: 200-20X Berger Hybrids seated 18 thousandths OFF from just touching lands
61.3grs of H4350 lit by Win. LRM primers
Velocity: 2930 (in that vicinity)...

I currently have one barrel but will be getting more.

10Twist Maddco with conventional rifling at 30” length.

I’m using RL23 with CCI BR2 primers and Berger 215hybrids 0.020 off the lands.

Load is very forgiving with a sweet spot from 64.0 to 65.0gr. This yields velocity around 2900fps

I can reach 3000fps with RL23 but feel this is pushing the brass so settled for the 2900FPS range.

Next barrel will be looking to finish at 32” and a 9twist to give the 230’s a run.

Hi. New to forum but a wsm shooter and love this thread.

I have a Savage 11 action with a 24” Brux barrel in a choate tactical stock. 8-32x56 sightron s3. Kind of my longer range hunt rig but hasnt seen much duty. Its heavy at 16 lbs or so.
Barrel is 1:10 twist and throated long for the 210-215 type long bullets. I dont recall how long the freebore is but with a berger 210 vld hunting, it touches lands around 2.406” base to ogive, or around 3.096” oal

Right now i load mag length to 2.97, jumping around .135” i believe. It shoots 3 into a slight oval hole at 100.

Norma brass, 215M match primer, 64.7 gr reloder 22, berger 210 hunting. 2790’s fps. Been to 65.5 gr but groups werent good. No pressure signs yet

Re22 is temp sensitive. My load works nice in cooler to cold weather. Opens up some in the heat.

Another load i liked was berger 180 elite hunters.
Norma brass, 215m primer, 70.8 gr reloder 26. Book load to 2.900” oal. But shot 3054 fps in my gun and ragged hole at 100. 71.5 gr results in very stiff bolt and ejector mark

Again, my gun with longer throat. Not sure if factory chambers would like it or see same type of results. Use caution

I see a lot of long barrels, does anyone have any loads with short 18” barrels ?

i want to hunt with this caliber and a suppressor is a must, hence 18” so it’s not overly long

Got a lot of H4831SC

My load ended up being 66 gr h4831 with 215 hybrids. Velocity of 2885 FPS sd in the zeros up to 2. Norma brass fgm 210’s .010 off touch. Going to play with seating depth more groups not what I’m looking for in the respect but zero vertical. Was hitting a 10” rock consistently at 600 yards. But I love bug holes!!!

I second 66grs of H4831 but the SC version with the Berger 215 Hybrid and Fed 210M at .025" off, shot a 5.375" 5 shot group at 1K with 153 rounds thru the Kreiger 30" 1-10" twist 4 groove HV barrel on a Bat M action in Mcmillan MBR stock, hopefully I can do better with a little more practice.

F class set up.
What's the realistic velocity for a 230gr hybrids...??
Very little on the 230 grainers..

Steve Blair has a lot of experience with the 230’s. if you search you will find his posts.

It would seem 2800-2850fps is realistic, more velocity is possible with one of the IMR powders (Steve could elaborate) but bag handling and recoil becomes difficult.

IMO the 230 at 2800fps doesn’t appear to hold any significant ballistic advantage over the 215 running 2950fps.

I keep meaning to give the 230’s a try, but consistent tight accuracy is so easy to find with the 215’s my lazy nature kicks in!!

Ben, I use BOTH the 215s and the 230s. I am running 2900 with the 215s and 2775 with the 230s. I find almost NO difference in wind deflection between the 2 bullets. However, I DO NOTICE that the 230s exhibit LESS vertical at 1000 yards. As a matter of fact, the vertical dispersion derived from atmospheric conditions has been cut to almost ZERO with either bullet. Since I started with the .300WSM, I have only lost 4 points (that I can remember) due to vertical! Now I still lose more than my fair share of bad wind calls and miss at 3 and 9 O'clock! But at 6 and 12 O'clock has been almost nullified!

300 wsm pet loads.shilen dgr action,x caliber 5r 9 twist 26" long.168 sierra tmk,66.5 grns rl16,br2 primer,win brass,3190 fps. 195 sierra tmk,69.0 grns imr 7828ssc,br2,win brass,3000 fps.both loads are 1/4 moa or less

Haven't got a pet load sorted yet with only 43 rounds down the barrel, but my first two stages outdoors at 600 metres today went clean...64.5gr of RL23 and 64.8gr of RL23. Couldn't get an accurate take on velocity as it was prize shoot (I took the aggregate for F-Open) so I couldn't place the Labradar next to the gun. I think it was up around 2940fps however with Berger 215gr hybrids. Daresay I'll have to back this load down some as the barrel speeds up.

How long is your barrel?

First year (2001) 300 WSM; Winchester 70 “Featherweight” which is a misnomer. Must be the original magnum profile 24” barrel. Pillared and 2 point bedded. 14-1/4” LOP with Mesquite heartwood butt spacer and Limbsaver. Recoil is “meh” to me. Shoots 180 Swift Scirocco II pushed by 62.5 gr RL16, WLRM primer @ 2917 to 2923 fps to 0.4 moa. Bullet jump is 0.059” +/- 0.001” so bullet base is below shoulder. I have not ID’d the dreaded donut, yet... I still have 1.5 to 2 gr powder charge yet to test.
