Excellent story, great video; he is one dedicated hunter!
I was surprised that he waited as long as he did before sending the shot. It almost seemed as though he was intentionally
waiting for them to line up but he doesn't say that. Good job.

Whatever it was, it was too much bullet - it zipped through the first one like an ice pick, without causing as much as a twitch... a bullet that opened faster, but held together (like the Nosler BT), would have been a better choice.

Cat, I think you are right on this call. I watched the "slow-motion" part and saw the bullet strike the first one a bit high. High enough that, in my mind, should have caused spinal shock and put him down right there>>>but it didn't. I believe a more expanding round would have flattened them both on the spot..

It is also possible that the bullet didn't hit anything solid. I have seen Noslers do the same thing. No bullet is prone from failure. He might have chose the wrong bullet but I didn't see what he was using. Matt

He was not protecting livestock... he was sport hunting, and sport hunting comes with a higher set of standards.

Quite possible. I like a bullet to pass all the way through the critter I am shooting. What I found out after shooting many many deer and critters was the size of the exit hole depended on range and how much critter it passed through. A hand full of inches the exit wound was huge. The farther the bullet had to pass inside a critter along with distance the smaller the exit wound would be.



The shot being high was due to the angle he was shooting at. There are no free lunches when pulling off shots like this. Being on level ground would have been better as the bullet could have been shot at the best spot in the vitals for both dogs. This is a case of taking what you can get.
