Wolves

It is many years past the point of no return as far as this subject goes. The state of Oregon has know this for years and promises to have a season every year but it's so far just B.S. allowing the packs to get larger.

AckleymanII's point of getting into predator hunting is 100% correct, it is much more challenging than you think. You will find in short order that you are the one with a lot to learn, not the predator. It has had others trying to kill it every single day of it's life since the day it was born.
In my area if a predator makes it to the second year it knows every single e-call sound ever made and it may be able to tell you what year it was made in. Sure you can get some of the first year pups, but at the same time you are just teaching it's bothers and sisters what to never come to again.

I hate to say this, but it is a way of controlling the masses. Those in charge in the Blue states want you to be dependent on them for everything. Your ability to go out hunting to care for yourself is not in their plan. They want you to suffer and they want chaos to ensure you cannot support or protect yourself.

You nailed it pardner. But after watching the actions of the majority of panty-waist govenors, thinking it may be the ultimate goal of ALL the states.

I just got back from an Idaho Elk hunt. As with the last couple of years - VERY few elk as compared to just 4-5 years ago. Wolf tracks everywhere and what few small herds we saw, there were only one to two calves. The future isn't looking good for the deer and elk herds anywhere they reintroduced the non native grey wolf. Luckily, one of the hunters I was with was able to shoot a young wolf and he decided to open up the stomach to see what he had been feeding on. It was full of elk hair and bone chips. I just can't understand how these wacko's value the life of this predator over the lives of the deer and elk. The only logical answer I can come to is that it really is about eliminating hunting. I only wish they would be left out in the woods with their flowers and rainbows so they would find out what really happens when a wolf is hungry.

A fellow I know feeds the elk high on the Green River in Wy. Couple winters back the wolves came into the feed grounds one night, slaughtered 17, didn't bother to eat even one.
If you or I did that, we would be burned at the stake by sportsmen AND the libs.
But since it was the wolves, it is a nod from one and a wink from the other.

Black bear and mt lion are the 1,2 predator of elk only because of the size of shared habitat of the 3 species. If wolves and grizzly had the same amount of shared habitat they would be 1,2 . Here in Mn it costs about 300,000 dollars/year to employ USDA trappers, they kill 275-300 wolves each year. But it wasn't ethical to allow the department of natural resources to allow trappers and hunters through a lottery or quota harvest license system to kill wolves. I think this was possible because the state hasn't actually counted wolves for more than a decade, they use a habitat assessment mathematical model to "count wolves". The anti groups use the model numbers(vastly under estimating the actual population) and friendly anti gun anti trapping judges to stop management practices. Wolf management is not scientific, but politically motivated(at least here in Mn) probably true elsewhere. Often related to anti hunting, anti gun, climate change, anti American agendas.

Florida Game and Fish was the agency that was supposed to permit and over see all exotic animals in Florida. They did such a poor job that many released the exotics with out any body knowing about it. Now the southern half of the state is over run with Burmese Pythons. low and behold they are also the agency that is responsible for cleaning up the python problem. They drug their feet for so long not wanting to admit to the problem that many believe that is is unfixable.

At this point, our being in this conversation eight pages long, let me ask this question. Are there any states left that actually run their wildlife programs so they will benefit both the wildlife and hunters of that state?

If one exists, it is being very quiet about it. But if it does, would be nice if the rest of them would take some lessons.

Without attempting to offer validation, my opinion is "NO."
In my estimation, the root of the problem lies in the NGOs and their litigaton/lobby influence with the Congress & Feds and the collective dependency of the states on federal monies. Along with a healthy dose of intimidation.

What would you do different that the State of Idaho does ? The DFW hunt and destroy wolves from helios, trap, tag/collar to study, and anyone, anyone can get a license and a wolf tag. Not past history, whats done is done. So going forward - let's hear it. Probably some good ideas . .. . .
