7-6.5PRCW load data

If your using N555 and Standard Large Rifle primers you will be fine.
Im at 2920 with a stable and not over pressure load. No Clickers and never blown any primers and I think it shoots even better at 2886 with SD in the 4s
Its a dream to tune..in less than 80 rounds down the barrel I can shoot a Match and be competitive.
That is very encouraging, thank you Sandstorm. Should have the barrel end of August. I was given 5 weeks lead time.

I would probably aim to run between 2850 and 2900. Shot my 6.5PRC barrel hard and only 1020 rounds and it was done.

What twist barrel are you running?

Such is the life of “Over Bore” cartridges… Bit like a 22-250, .243 {especially AI}
Abundant suggestions on this site show that the 2’850-2’900 is just about the ideal velocity for the 7PRCW cartridge preventing the notorious “clicker” problem that plagued early adaptors of the cartridge… A few slight tweaks to reamer design has also helped but in the end “Speed costs Money… How fast do you want to go?”
Apparently the “Big End” of 6PPC shooters are ruining cases with just a few reloads but getting the target results that they require.

At 1100 rds my first barrel is ready for retirement. The last 100 rds showed 25% unexplained vertical beginning at 1000 rds. Speed fell off 50 fps in its last match.
I have really enjoyed this chambering. I do not use a tuner but found it easy to tune with 555 powder charge. I shot 2880-2900 fps on ADG brass . Using the Cortina die and expander after 8 firings still no clickers. I tried the 2950 fps node and while it shot good after 2 firings I would be dealing with clickers.
White River primers and ADG brass was not a good match . I had to deepen the primer pockets to get them to sit deep enough. Brass is now dedicated to White River.Otherwise , they shoot good . Good thing since I bought 5k .
The ADG brass has been very consistent in sizing with zero loss at 8 firings. New barrel headspaced off my brass and will continue to use it . I have a .316 turn neck and it’s a good fit.
After 10 yrs of a 6 dasher I don’t regret changing to the 7prcw. It’s a lot more forgiving.

Do you mind sharing your bullet weight and charge?

What style of matches were you shooting / what were your shot string round counts like?

I don’t shoot this cartridge (although I have the reamer, brass, and dies), but 1100 rounds seems short. Have you tried upping the powder and adjusting seating depth?

Im a little surprised at the round count...but barrels quit when they quit.
I think most of my barrels are still under 1000 rounds but i do have one at 1200 and it still shoots well.

I just took one off that was pushing 1600 rounds. It was still shooting very well. It had dropped from 2870 to 2840 so I figured it was getting close to the end. I might put it back on this winter and use it for a practice barrel just to see how far it'll go.

Yea that's what im thinkin too...but ya never know its all in the powder and metal composition, and
how hot you get them.....but if you keep em under 2900 you should be ok up to 1600 rounds i would think.

1500-1600 rounds seems to be what Aussie shooters are getting out of this cartridge. We shoot primarily on electronic targets everywhere though, so fast string shooting is often the norm and with our climate, particularly summer...I think it's pretty good barrel life - better than a SAUM and not far off a 284win which is about right. Most guys here running it around 2850fps which keeps it clicker free.

Actually , I dropped the powder and got a good waterline prior to this match. Nobody else had verticals , not even the 6’s . As it got dirty it tightened up . This was a mullerworks barrel which I have never used before. It has shot really well but at 1100 rds speed fell off 50 fps in 90+ degree heat . I shoot it 2880 fps and have no clickers. I put another mullerworks on it since this one shot well . I will put it to work this weekend in St Louis.davew2.png

I think your vertical is your rear bag setteling. your rifles bouncing on recoil,
at least it looks a lot like it....id check that if it was my set up...ask me how i know.
I’ll find out tomorrow. I put 50 rds down the new barrel and no vertical on it doing charge testing . I am shooting a new Edgewood original rear bag . my old Protector the palm swell would hit the ears if I didn’t set it with recoil pad barely protruding . I always seat the gun in front and rear bags if I take it out of the rest. This is the only gun I shoot out of this setup .
On a personal level , I am defending Big Piney open champ and can take it again this year . The new barrel was ready to screw on and took the same load as old one in testing. My next barrel I will swap to Krieger which is my preferred brand and compare barrel life. I chose this brand when I swapped from 6 dasher strictly due to availability.
This is testing on new barrel holding X for a waterline. First shots were adjusting scope after being off the gun .
Thanks for your insight about the bag . It is new so I won’t dismiss it especially if it continues to throw verticals.

Must have been the barrel . Shot in St Louis today and no verticals .
What distance ?
Bet you wish you kept the two sighters on the third string…
Wishing F Open for our comps allowed more than two sighters…
We do have a choice to keep both or the second one.
Overall, I’d say that new barrel is a “Keeper”…!

600 yds . They don’t do convertibles in St. Louis. We do do them at my home range on electronic targets. The 2 I dropped was all me . First one was scope adjustment and second one a gust caught me.
