Even a 220 Swift can get thousands of rounds through the barrel before it opens up much. I learned this decades ago shooting sage rats, if you can't leave your hand on the barrel, it's simply too hot. Solved this by adding a 22-250 and a 10-22 to the mix and later on other rifles. One gets warm, simply swap in another or better yet have a cup of coffee with the guys. If everyone is shooting highpower seems breaks are about the same time and many of us know hunting and varminting are as much about socializing as anything.
Of course it helped that we usually went in March or early April when the mornings were cold, or even spitting snow. We did late May exactly once, 80+ deg and all the alfalfa was up more than 8" so it simply wasn't productive. Not only few targets, but barrels heating quickly and sunburn was a serious issue. lol
