22-250 to 22-250AI

Since you mentioned this will be a fairly low round count rifle pass on the AI version and the 22 CM and step on over to the dark side and go 22-243 Improved. My 22-243 improved is the 35° shoulder version with a Krieger 8tw barrel and I'm launching 80gr ELD-M's 3650 and it stacks them in a very tight little group. I don't know if any of the lighter bullets would survive the trip with my 8tw though.

IF, you want to SEE, the "Splodies" with, a .22-250 Rem., in an 8 to 9 Pound, Walking Varmint, BRAKED, Rifle, Use,.. 50 gr V-Maxes, 52 gr A-Maxes/ Bergers or, 53 gr. V-Maxes ( 12-14 Twist ), Pushed at, NO More than,... 3,600 FPS !
And,.. Set Scope for,. 18-20 Power, Max.
IMO,.. There's No need for, the Ai Version,.. Except to, cut down on,.. "Trimming" cases.
H-4895, IMR 4895, H-380 and Varget, are "Good", Powder choices in the .22-250 for, the sub 55 grain bullets.
Size the Case with, a Minimum of shoulder "Set Back" for, Best Accuracy in, the old 250 !
There's NO need to spend, a Lot of Money on Expensive Bullets to, Shoot PD's and Sage Rats !!!

This one - 22-250AI - weighs 12lbs with brake and an 8-32 scope. Used 32x a lot of the time, 50BT@4225 and the thing never moves when fired, just a bare quiver to say it's been shot....32x is very usable and not too much. Nice to have when it's just a head sticking up from the hole, or seeing an eyeball between a couple rocks.

I have a box or 2 of it put up for hard hard times, which we’re in now with that flavor. Probably come closer to finding Sasquatch first
I bet the 2 boxs you have will wear our a barrel unless you run it really hard.

I hear you. Time will tell. Also, I forgot to mention that I'm currently rebuilding my varmint arsenal after being out of it for 20+ years. I am completely starting over by scratch! With that said, I haven't even shot my new setups yet. I have factory rifles as well as customs. I'm still waiting for brass to start load development. I'm always looking ahead or planning ahead. If, when I need to rebarrel, who knows what I'll actually do? So many new kids on the block.

For those shooting the 22-250 or the AI version what might be the recipe for speed using a 50, 53 and 55-grain bullet?
Mike,
Many moons ago my 22-250 AI came alive with IMR4064. At the time, no other powder came close as far as speed and accuracy goes. Many coyotes in the 500 yd range were in for a big surprise when they hit the ground hard!! Had some great times hunting the high prairie in the deep snow. Fun stuff. Hide prices were quite good back then so that was a nice bonus. The 22-250AI is a great round. My barrels went around 2000 rounds as my hunting was one and done if I did it right. Lol.

I hope so. It’s good stuff just impossible to find currently in the wild. I only shoot it in 1 of mine that’s bench worthy, the other 2 are more for carry/truck and can shoot any brass good enough to draw blood

Ack! Don't insult your magnificent rifle calling it a 22-250AI which in today's world reeks of AI. Call it a 22-250 Ackley Improved. Yeah, a bit more work typing but then absolutely zero chance of it even briefly creating an image of the terrible blight on humanity of AI. And pics! :)

I built a custom 22/250 on a Weathery 6 lug action and an 8" Brux. Shoots 75-80 bullets crazy good. HIigh BC bullets don't need to go faster than 3400 fps. UNLESS of course you want them to.

If, I had, a 12 Pound Rifle,.. I'd want it, On Wheels with, a Tractor to, Pull it ! ( I'm gettin' Old )
A "Walking Varmint Rifle" to, Me = 8 Pound ish, Rifle. ( And I HAVE found, the "Holy Grail",.. Load for, It )
I Have, a 10.5 pound LV rifle, in 6 XC w/ 80 gr Bergers that's, a "Tack Driver",.. IF, I want, a heavier Rifle, BUT,..
It stays, on my Portable Bench, CLOSE to, the Truck.
No lug 'em, around, on Foot,.. very Far !

Youre right about weight, I'm going lighter with about everything now. I mostly shoot off bags on the truck hood, or between the A pillar and door, or door window, almost never go walking. And wouldn't go walking with that one unless it was a very short distance. Also I'd weighed several rifles and misremembered that one, it weighs 11 lbs now and with a different scope, 4-27 Bushnell Forge. My lighter weight one is 9 lbs with a (now) 6-24 Arken. Lilja barrel, very nicely accurate with same loads, a bonus.. Haven't used it on fur yet.IMG_E0854.JPG

Mine Looks like Yours, only it's Still, Blue steel ( Lightly used, 1981 Model Rem 700, Lefty, in .22-250 ) w/ 6x-20x Burris and a Brake. With the Load, mentioned above, it DOESN'T, "Move",.. upon, Recoil !
I really Like, the 7 to 8 Pound Rifles for, "Walking Varmint", Hunting.
I use this Rifle for, Walking the rolling desert Hills, in Sage Rat Country w/ My Wood Sticks and a Pack on My thigh.
The Pack supports the Rifles Toe area for, Good Accuracy in Sitting Positions, on the Side Hills.
