"new" ripoff trimmer from Hornady

When FA comes out with the exact same unit...at 299.00. What will Hornady do? Hornady has made base model junk for years. Sold at Bass Pro amongst others. Let's face it...RCBS and Hornady and FA are base model junk to most of us. There is so.mu h more out there that yields better results. A new Super Bass Pro was opened next to me recently. They closed a Cabelas and old Bass Pro.
This new store is like walking g through Walmart...cold. Full of base model junk. That's not what real people want. They want specialized product. Good stuff. Anyone spending 600 on this hornady product will surely consider the Henderson. No substitute for quality product. American made product. Watch how this plays out!

Why are you assuming the Hornady trimmer is made in China? I see a lot of people in this thread doing it. Assumptions aren’t a good foothold for an argument.

ETA: I went to the source and sent a message to Hornady. We will see what they say.

Your argument assumes legality but disregards right vs wrong.
In the case of tires and patent protections, I wouldn't attempt to patent the tire itself but what if I come up with a tread design that doubles fuel economy, for example?
Patents can't generally be vague, as in "trimmer for cutting brass casings". In his case, it is his design attributes that make it a better mouse trap that is patentable, imo.

Your example is a far reaching, generalized over simplification. Your logic may be legal but legal does not equate to morals.
From a tire guy - Remember the Aqua-tread????? Remarkable traction in rain and water dispersion. Wasn't on the market 3-4 months and their were 3 knock offs we had to fight to cease and desist. Finally after a couple years everyone had a "version" of their aqua-channel lol!!!

I don't think I made that statement about the trimmer. None the less, it's quality will not compare even if made in Nebraska. I would bet on it.

Mass produced products will never have the quality control. If Im spending 600, I will weigh my options and another 200 wouldn't bother me if the quality is superior.
So the Henderson are not mass produced? Each one is hand made to order?

Rob01,

just call Henderson and ask.
I honestly don’t care that much as I wouldn’t be getting one but he seemed to know about them so I figured I would ask him. Like I said earlier I have a Giraud and don’t plan to get rid of it. Lol

TO THIS UNRULY MOB: I have wasted nearly two hours reading this. At my age (75) that is precious time I will never get back. Neither will any of you.

ere's the straight skinny: Hornady is a mass producer. The Hendersons are not. There is a sense of pride in supporting a "little guy" VS a mass marketer who could care less who you are. Hornady is not going to send any of you a Christmas Card. They might, if you order a million dollars a year worth of product.
COMPARISON: Savage is a mass producer of actions and barrels. So are the custom action and barrel makers, who (my favorite is RKS), are not. Savage is not going to send you a Birthday Card.
I would buy the Henderson, because of that hand crafted feeling I get. Like other things we buy, that limited production, hand crafted tool. Order from Henderson, and get special attention. Hornady will not even sell you one. See a dealer.
The other (and final) point: are any of you Hornady supporters shooting their bullets instead of Bergers because they are less expensive.

Support the people who support you...

Rob01, and...

I shot Elephants and one Cape Buffalo using Hornady bullets. Even showed before and after photos. I didn't get a thank you from them.

Let this die, please...

The Henderson was actually an upgraded model of the RCBS Universal Case Prep Center.

Functions very similarly to the Henderson and using the case OAL to trim. Can also change the trim length with a micrometer knob.

The RCBS version just cut and didn't use the 3-way. I believe they eventually made a tri way but it also was not sharp enough.

Also used pilots that would need to be filed that went into the case neck.

Its now discontinued. BTW I love my Giraud

I think it is a rip off and maybe it is unethical. Reality is, I was about to spend 75 bucks bucks for a 22 triway cutter and maybe 75 more for 6mm. If the Hornady is 299 or less im going to buy it cuz I have carpel tunnel already and holding the case to trim kills my hands.

The world is a cruel place. I volunteered for Water for Wildlife for years building and restoring water sources for upland birds and big horn sheep in the Mojave Desert. Millions in volunteer materials and man hours over more than a decade. Apparently, some other organization thousands of miles away by chance had the same name. They sent threatening letters from lawyers about their new copyright. Heck, all they had to do was contact us and ask us to not use the name and take down our FB page. Instead they started straight with lawyers. They even forced us to remove our little sign on the work trailer of tools we hauled thousands of miles in the wilderness. No good dead goes unpunished, the sooner you accept it, the happier you will be....

Exactly what I was thinking. $800 to trim brass. Gimme a break
It matters how much brass you have to trim and how often, to many people time is money and others like me have injuries to hands or wrist or arthritis and tools like this make life a lot more bearable. Just like priming tools, people spend their money where its the biggest bang for their buck to them...not others.
