First Snert, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE !Being very specific here in this question:
I am retired LEO, 4 kids, wife, educated, family matters very much, church matters, conservative values matter, like good food, want to be able to shoot, hunt (varmints hopefully) and flyfish. Lots of experience in firearms, training, safety and teaching. Due to injury, am not able to deal with a LOT of cold weather, snow. Am now living Upstate NY and have reached my limit of the nanny state taking everything from me to feed some chap whose pants hang to his knees. :Time to move to a place that values education, and values delineated above.
So, please tell me why I should move to an area you like. Please don't tell me where you would LIKE to live...I am looking for honest responses from folks living "there" happily. This is an honest question, so please, spare the snide remarks about Yankees, or me shooting your PD's...I am a red-blooded American who has paid the price, and want to move to a place I can be more free. I want to be a good neighbor and contribute, not suck off the system. Just been so busy doing the right thing here I never got to travel, so I really do not know where to look.
I look forward to thoughtful answers. Besides, it gives a person a chance to crow about why their place is so great.
if you really only are willing to help out one yankee conservative, God loving guy and his family, and don't want everyone to know about your favorite place, send me a PM!
Thanks
Snert
Snert is a great guy. He has moved to Pennsylvania after posting that. Then, recent elections have put more Bozo’s in office. Pa. Is on the brink.First Snert, THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE !
ONE Country UNDER GOD
If We all SURRENDER, it is the END of THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
I will add to that. If your a competitive shooter you will need to pick which match you want to shoot every weekend for at least half the months. The off or winter matches offer lots of indoor competition from archery to small bore, to air guns plus handgun leagues. Lots of public ground and if you put the effort in also private ground to hunt.Except for the winters which you stated might be problem, Center Pennsylvania might deserve a look. Has many of the values you listed and they don't tax pension benefits.
Has some the best varmint hunting (groundhogs) you could ever want and most farmers will welcome you to shoot them. I start hunting them in April all the way to October. That's a lot of field time.
Probably not as radical change in climate from what your already use to.
Strong hunting / gun support in most of the State especially in rural areas except in the Philadelphia area.
Concealed carry permits are readily available if you have a clean criminal record. (except Philadelphia area)
Plenty of state game lands and state forests open to public hunting - varmints, predators, small game, turkey, deer and bear. Coyote hunting has seen a marked increased in the last few years.
Texas has very high property tax that is almost like an income tax. and pretty high sales tax//6.25%. but it is a pretty good state. property prices have gone skyhigh.Utah does have a lot to offer.
I find a lot of similarities between Boise, Salt Lake, Fort Collins Co, Anchorage, Reno, Sacramento, and a few others. I’d probably like Texas, but I’ve never spent much time there - same with Arizona.
Yeah, but the “No Income Tax” makes it very appealing! If you buy a McMansion, you’re gonna get the higher property taxes to go with it. Buy a nice little house and it was not that bad. Now, the problem is that EVERYONE finally realizes that and they’re flocking to Texas and driving home prices thru the roof.Texas has very high property tax that is almost like an income tax. and pretty high sales tax//6.25%. but it is a pretty good state. property prices have gone skyhigh.
Omaha isn’t Nebraska. Like Jackson/Laramie/Cheyenne isn’t Wyoming.
Perspective is everything.
Yep, and investors are buying 1/3 of the houses in N. Texas. These aren't small guys with some extra money. They are big multi million dollar outfits buying houses and squeezing homebuyers out of the market. I am a free market guy, but it is irritating to watch it happen. flip side is our house values age going straight up.Yeah, but the “No Income Tax” makes it very appealing! When I moved here in 2019, there were 12 homes within 5 miles of me with 5+ acres and 2500 sque. Ft. and larger houses for $350,000 or less. I know because I was trying to convince some friends to move here and sent them the info.
That time has passed.
The biggest problem we face is that the Californians are moving here in droves, bringing the attitudes that ruined their state!
Lets not forget Ashland, Salem and Eugene as well. And Portand isn't Oregon!

It's unfortunate but they get all the say
We are at the end of the Oregon trail for a reason...Actually I would prefer that the rest all think the whole state of Oregon is juts one liberal cesspit so they stay away.

This state has so much to offer everyone from farming to fishing with spectacular landscapes and good public land.

I have read and heard about that. “Investors” are buying properties and turning them into rentals. Some major players are dumping billions into the idea.Yep, and investors are buying 1/3 of the houses in N. Texas. These aren't small guys with some extra money. They’re in the Houston area too. I got some low ball offers from a couple… told them to take a long walk!Yep, and investors are buying 1/3 of the houses in N. Texas.
