Shipping guns from one place to another?

I am in the proces of selling a TC contender action frame. I live in ca and the person that wants to buy it also lives in ca about 200 miles away, what I would like to know is in order for me to sell this action do i need to meet him in a place with an FFL dealer? or can he just send me a letter from a FFL dealer on where to send it? i just dont want to get in trouble and do something wrong. if this is the wrong place to post this please let me know and i will move it. thanks. Gabe

Gabe: You would do best to seek advice from someone in your home state. State laws do vary. Here in Pennsylvania I can sell a long gun, to another state resident without going thru a FFL. But all handgun transactions must be done with a FFL. It's also for your own protection. Once the FFL does the transfer, you are no longer responsible for what may be done with that firearm, by the new owner.

If it were me, and the sale involved shipping the handgun, I would demand that the buyer provide a copy of his dealers FFL & I would ship it to that dealer.

Upon receipt of his funds and a copy of the FFL from the dealer who will receive the gun for the buyer, you can simply ship it directly to the FFL. You do NOT need to use an FFL on your (the seller's) side. The buyer's FFL dealer might want you to provide ID (a photocopy or scan of your CA driver's license). It's a simple deal. Don't freak out. :) PM me if you get weird advice from others who make you wonder if I'm FOS. (I'm in CA, so I feel your pain...)

Gabriel,
Nate's correct. You must have a copy of the current FFL from the dealer to whom you ship. We cannot sell in California without a dealer in the middle. A PDF or image sent via email is adequate, if signed. I am down in San Diego. Good luck.
