Places to Live & Shoot

Phil that would be great, it's nice that you have a connection to Nampa, and its pretty funny because my wife and I just closed our business that was doing repairs and remodels for 2 familys that own 22 rentals. one four plex we actually manged for about 2 years. I will pm you my phone # and Address and when you get over this way anytime give me a call and we can go out to the club and shoot.

Ray this place is heaven for an outdoorsman, its also a mecca for white water kyakers and there are about 7000 miles of trails open for riding quads and dirt bikes. Daytime tempsfor winter are Dec 35, Jan-feb24, March38-45. Last year was the first time since 2005 that we had about 8" of snow that stayed on the ground for about 3 weeks but ususally it will only snow a couple of inches at a time and its usually gone in the afternoon.

riverwolf1,

The weather would be great, I moved to apart of NY that has lake effect and I shovel about everyday here in the winter time! I like that there ATV friendly, NY is not even if there insured and registered! I personally liked the amount of tags you said earlier came with your (super sportsman)Hunting license is what NYers call it!

It may be hard to believe but the state of Washington is also a gun-friendly state. Shall-issue CCW. Yes, there are attempts by libs for more gun control but they get shut down. Dozen or more ranges with 500-600yd firing lines. Great 1000yd range at Rattlesnake. Temperate weather west of the Cascades. No state income tax. Mountain, ocean, woods all nearby. 1000's of hiking, biking trails. Skiing 1 hr from major ciites. If it's raining west of the Cascades then take a 3hr drive east of the mountains into sunshine.

Here is a informative website on state comparison of other factors: http://www.cnbc.com/id/100824779

All,

This is GREAT information, especially from those who have lived in the places and can compare to where they came from. My wife and I are considering a drive to places like Washington, then Idaho, down to Utah, and back, to try and get a feel for the place. We will need to talk with people, interact with them, tour the area, see costs, look at real estate, etc. We need to do as many right things as possible to determine "is this place for us"? Hearing from people who have experienced the life in a particular place, is very valuable and can rule out some places while shining the light on others. I can afford to only drive to so many places.

A big concern is finding a place that is not changing for the worse. I often find places that look good, but then also find they are being infiltrated by liberals that try to change it to the very thing they were trying to escape. I can not forget something the conservative talk show host said, "Liberals are like locusts, they devour and destroy where they live, and move on to another place to do the same"...or something to that effect. It is critical that does not happen in whatever place I go. Research showing changing demographics is valuable.

Wherever we head, I would welcome the opportunity to meet some 6mmBR members. Seems like many of you are not in my immediate area (you are smart).

Often thought that southern Washington state would be a good place. No income tax in Wash.; no sales tax in Oregon. Nice combination.

Maybe this will help..... (2012 Presidential Election)

Thanks, it is a good graphical help. In Oklahoma, not a single county went to Obama in either of his elections. I see Utah is fan of his either.

I have heard this, that Texas is being targeted by Democrats to turn blue. Such an event, and if blue enough, would guarantee a Democratic president for the foreseeable future. I would like Texas, but frankly, the trend there unnerves me, even if Romney got 57.2% of the vote and Obama 41.4%.

Some historical data
Year Rep. Dem.
2012 57.19% 4,555,799 41.35% 3,294,440
2008 55.48% 4,467,748 43.72% 3,521,164
2004 61.09% 4,526,917 38.30% 2,832,704
2000 59.30% 3,799,639 38.11% 2,433,746
1996 48.80% 2,736,166 43.81% 2,459,683
1992 40.61% 2,496,071 37.11% 2,281,815
1988 56.01% 3,036,829 43.41% 2,352,748
1984 63.58% 3,433,428 36.18% 1,949,276

1972 66.20% 2,298,896 33.24% 1,154,291
1968 39.87% 1,227,844 41.14% 1,266,804
1964 36.49% 958,566 63.32% 1,666,185

I would (be happy). Please remember where I am now. The San Francisco bay area. The worst of Texas is nothing compared to the best of what we have here.

Phil,
I know what you are trying to say. What would be wrong with Colorado as it has a tremendous amount of former Kalif. folks there now?
I see myself as an independent, not a straight ticket guy. I do not think our country will get well with either all democrat or all republican leadership. It is more important for our country to forget all the fussing and come together solving our problems.
Phil, you would be welcome here and treated well.

I see Steve (sleepygator) mentioned my name. Phil3, you could live like I do, but you would have to sacrifice about 2000 sq ft of living space.
My wife & I are officially South Dakota residents (also no state income tax) although we have only been in the state once in the past five years. We spend our winters in the Phoenix area (last house was in Gilbert), one month each spring in NC, and summers in Ohio.
I belong to the Rio Salado gun range in AZ but also shoot my portable steel on BLM land (winter months). While in NC, I shoot at a local police range or with a friend on properties of his friends. And while in Ohio in the summers I shoot groundhogs and do a little competing at a long range steel venue.
And one of these days, I need to take my portable shooting bench up to my roof and take a pic for TheSnake. ;)

Pic was taken at a rest stop on I-20 in west TX.

You don't have to move where the winters are extreme, or to the desert, or to where the wind blows all the time. A friend moved from the Bay Area to a very nice development near this range, and is very pleased with the variety of shooting that it allows.

There are many worse ways to go than Bill's way. He picks where he wants to be and when.
