Where to move?

I am going to have to disagree with Butch.. There is very little public land in Texas.. You must eith lease land or buy land. There are very limited opportunities to hunt on public land..

If you like hunting in an area that you don't know who and where the next hunter is, Texas is not your place.

There is quite a bit of public land in East Texas. However, the locals seem to think that property is theirs and will deal you misery if you show up.
 
Most public land in Texas is in tiny pieces, with millions of people in the state.... That is not really plenty of land. In most western states we have Federal and State owned lands open to hunting with no applying or drawings required. Park and walk in. Then there are millions more acres of Block Management. On most block management property you stop at the box, sign in and hunt. I have 7,000 acres of Block Management between my house and my mail box... I live on 200 acres and have access to another 170 a joining my property.. No comparison.. I left Texas because of the heat....
 
My place in Florida, south of Tampa, use to be rather rural. We can shoot in the backyard but things sure have changed the past 5 years. STUCCO JUNGLE has been built everywhere. You buy here away from the city and the city moves to you. Hideous.

Now the roads have not been upgraded to handle the huge population increases. I look out at the huge farm fields we hunted for miles that are now stucco jungle and near cry. Fishing on Tampa Bay and nearshore is so crowded with boats the fun, adventure and catch rate has diminished.

Forget southern Florida.

Yea, I guess you are right.
Nobody that lives on a farm or ranch has a street or road that runs past their place. Everyone travels via horse like John Wayne, right? ;)

You'll see just look at the jail rosters, watch the political movement in your state and local elections, school boards etc.

I have never said all people that are moving to ID are conservatives, but both my experience and the data I have recently seen show that a significant majority of the people are indeed conservative. As an example, my neighbor from Cali is a big Trump supporter.

It's also incorrect to say that all people who move want to change their new place to be like their old. I definitely saw that happen 30-40 years ago in Oregon as Californians moved up. But a lot of people learned from that and are working against that trend nowadays.

Now if you want to be all and doom and gloom, it is an absolute certainty that human civilization ends in failure. But we don't have give up and whine about it while it's happening.....
 
I'm not giving up, im just giving you the reality of the situation. I guarantee you the same situation is going on in western MT that is in Idaho. You've been in Idaho 2 years give it about 5 more and you will see what I'm talking about.
Talk to the people who have been there awhile not the ones who have been there just in the last couple years, its just like a new girlfriend wait untill the newness wears off.
You can call it whining if you want I'm just telling it like it is.
 
I’m spoiled with the amount of public land around me (Arizona), the only place I found more was Alaska and that’s a different dynamic altogether. If you’re ever feeling too cramped and live by the ocean just remember two thirds of this beautiful planet is covered in water, most of it is undiscovered. I work a lot in Hawaii, not much public land access there though but when we get on the boat we are often by ourselves the whole day. These pictures are my son and a friend today off the shore of Oahu towards Molokai. I know a lot of you enjoy the ocean, it can be a nice get away. My son spear fishes a lot, I’ll go with him and manage the boat now and again but I don’t dive with him. My son is the knucklehead with the fin in his mouth.

Rural Utah isn't for everyone....but I hate cities/traffic and all that goes along with it

Most recently....took a day trip in the Cruiser...passed through alpine forests at 10K' plus

Dropped off the mountain....rather well maintained Forest & BLM roads

Saw two vehicles/people in my 75 mile loop...nice

High desert ranges from 6-7K' but again not everyone's cup of tea

Being retired helps me a lot where I live...wife soon to retire

That's weighing heavily on my mind. I'm in pretty good health right now, but based on what I've seen happen to my friends, that can change overnight. Very difficult if not impossible thoughts to resolve~!
